Are guys like Isner good for tennis?
Watching this Auckland match vs Sandgren

Isner wins all his service games, doesnt even try if down 0-30 in opponents games

    Nothing but tie breaks....

It's VERY BORING tennis, the guy isn't even sweating

It got me wondering, would tennis be better with a height restriction? It truly is advantageous to be that tall given the trajectory of the serve, etc.....

It's almost like exposing a glitch in a video game. Doesn't seem legit...

From a gambling standpoint, his matches are infuriating to handicap unless it is a slow surface where he is exposed, or his opponent has an attackable serve (Simon). Otherwise, everything is a tiebreak and down to the wire.

From a fan's perspective, there were only small pockets in his career where he had decent baseline performances in tournaments (Indian Wells couple of times). But all in all, he and the other bots like Opelka and Raonic are bad for the sport and gambling (most matches are tight).

Raonic can at least rally. Isner and Opelka are boring to watch. The beauty of tennis is that there are tons of matches every day to watch, handicap, or bet on. All isner matches are 23.5 on the totals because you don’t know if this guy will just serve to tie breakers

Isner vs Opelka is the most pointless match ever.

Literally should just start with a the break.

Hard Serve and volley game is his bread and butter... He's tall.. He's gotta go there..

When you are 6'10 you will have a bullet serve advantage against everyone.. Gotta use it because you aren't gonna be like those short speedy bastards that chase down every stroke.. You gotta end the points in a hurry.. When it's the other guys service game you are lost typically.

Is he good for the sport IDK? I've watched Isner play over the years from time to time.

He's currently ranked #20 in the world and getting paid. He's doing something right..

It's actually an alarming stat if you are a tall/big fella then the odds are stacked against you. Looking at the past with those guys.

Cilic made a pretty good career being 6' 6" so it's possible if the stars align. Del Potro (same height) is another good example. Anderson (6' 8) made two finals. But because of their heights they all suffered certain strains to the body because of that height.

But even some of those younger guys are closer to that height, and have the potential who knows.

6'1 - 6'3 seems to be the sweet spot for the ideal playing height. I would almost say 6' 0 is also okay.

Isner can't do anything except serve, he's Wimbledon match against mahut for example think was 70-68 last set, it's great that he hasn't won a slam or made a slam final as the guy is very clutch and might steal one but very hard to do that 7 games straight

Anyone saying that all Isner can do is serve just doesn't watch him play. If you watched the match against Edmund yesterday, and most of his matches last year, you'd know that. For most of his career, this was true, but he has developed his game greatly. This is the case for Opelka and Karlovic, but Opelka is also working to develop his game. Karlovic makes no secret of the fact that he's looking to serve the ball down your throat and take care of you in the tiebreak.

When it comes to matches like Isner vs. Opelka, it is true that they conserve the energy for their service games. They know that it will be extremely difficult to break a world-class server, so this is strategy. Saying there should be a height restriction in tennis is like saying there should be a height restriction in basketball. It's really ignorant and stupid.

Height restrictions in tennis would be crazy, no one should be excluded. Isner 90% all serve I think he's last 10 matches he has only broken someone in only 1 match so the other 9 matches he didn't break once but guy is good returner right

Isner starts out his 2020 AO campaign with a 3-1 win over Moneteiro.

                                All 4 sets tie-breaks

Not really a tennis fan did not realized this. I wonder if you could teach basketball busts or older players to do this.

There should be an option for tennis players to start every set at 5-5, like chess grandmasters acknowledging a game will invariably end in a draw and 'agreeing' to it.

At least that way, spectators who came to the stands for tennis, wouldn't have to endure whatever it is that Isner and Anderson play.
