Lawsuit accused NHL's Evander Kane of owing Cosmopolitan $500K

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas is suing NHL player Evander Kane, accusing him of owing a $500,000 debt with the casino.

The complaint was filed by the property's LLC in the Eighth Judicial District Court on Monday, Nov. 4.

The lawsuit alleges the Canadian winger for the San Jose Sharks opened eight lines of credit in the casino in April 2019.

As of the date of the lawsuit, the Cosmopolitan alleges he didn't pay back the credit lines and owes a total of $500,000. The casino's representatives made several unsuccessful attempts to reach him for repayment.

"Kane breached the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing by, among other things, failing to timely pay the value of the credit instruments he executed in favor of The Cosmopolitan, which are in the total amount of $500,000.00," the lawsuit alleges.

San Jose Sharks and the Vegas Golden Knights are scheduled for a game in Las Vegas on Nov. 21.

Sharks' Evander Kane owes a Vegas casino over $500K in gambling markers

A Las Vegas casino is suing Evander Kane, claiming the San Jose Sharks forward failed to pay back $500,000 in gambling markers given to him in April.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas filed the lawsuit against Kane on Monday, saying he took out eight separate credits that totaled $500,000 in mid-April.

Markers are special credits that allow gamblers, if qualified, to more easily receive access to large amounts of money on the spot.

Kane and the Sharks were in Las Vegas when he allegedly used the markers, as San Jose played the Golden Knights in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Kane, 28, is in the second year of a seven-year, $49 million deal he inked with the Sharks. The NHL team did not immediately respond to the Review-Journal's request for comment.

I wonder if casinos settle these for 30 cents on the dollar. If that's the case smart move by Kane...save $300k

It would have to go to court first and then it would be on his credit report as a settled debt.

I doubt they would settle. A marker is tantamount to writing a check, not using a credit card; failure to pay is a criminal, not civil offense. He'll pay of he'll be arrested.

Yah I think Las Vegas comes down hard on not paying markers and if you write a bad check. WHen its for 500k this won't end well for Evander. Canada won't let him back in with a felony conviction would they?

BROCK LANDERS would be able to shed some light on the consequences of not paying casino markers on time.

                                        Brock, please chime in.

USC just wondering... do you always have to be on blood thinners now? Or did your doctor give you an option to donate blood every 4-6 months? When you donate a pint of blood... it sort of thins out your blood by 3-4%... which is huge. The side effect to donating blood... your iron could become unstable... it doesn't happen to everyone. I know every condition is different... just wondering if it would make a difference in your case? Perhaps you should ask your doctor if that's another option for you? Get well soon.

No problem. I guess I should be more precise in what I mean.... I'm not a doctor... lol but I'm learning. I would only imagine that thickening of the blood is caused by a high red blood cell count. If you can access your lab reports online... look for CBC Report... and Hematocrit level. Some doctors want that level to be between 44% - 52%. Once it hits 53% or higher... it's a concern for heart attack and stroke etc. Just think of your blood as motor oil that hasn't been changed in a car in quite some time. It becomes thick like sludge. It's hard for your heart to pump it through arteries... especially if some areas are already clogged by cholesterol. If the blood is thin enough... a person could possibly survive a heart attack even if these areas are partially blocked.... just like an engine runs better on a fresh oil change.

When you donate a pint of blood... your Hematocrit level should decrease by 3-4%. Possibly bringing your score back within range if it was high.

Like I said... this may or may not help your issue... because every issue is different. But you could ask your doctor.

I'm just not a big fan of constant medication. It really screws up your system. Side effects to everything in life.
