Went to school with one. He plays multiple tables and has a ton of patience. Treats it like a full time job. Only plays certain hours and for only as long as required to meet daily quota. He got into the AI stuff and has been doing really well traveling across the world doing it. Shit is rare, but can be done I guess.

i played pro for six years made maybe a little over half a million. What retired me was I was in a side tourney at binions horse shoe when the wsop used to play the venue. I flopped 4 eights with a lot of all in action hand , needless to say it was my biggest win of my life took home just over 200k for that on tourney alone. Have not played since , sports investing is my new love but now just a side fun hobby extra cash love it.

You have to have a ton of patients and be able to read people like a book. If you can get under peoples skins, it will make it easier to be a winner. I never played professionally or in big money games, but I have had a lot of success in decent size private games by just waiting people out and getting them all pissed off, which throws them off their game. If you can control people, you can win. Just like everything else in life. Control is the name of the game. Look how easy it is to piss people off in here. Those people are the ones you want in your game.

Even 10-15 years ago online poker is about 5x harder than some live home game. Hard to get under peoples' skin if they don't look at the chat box.

I hear that brother bought me an affordable house str8 cash, a truck and learned the construction trade on my own time and pay.
Still kills me today you go past a project and these guys are working 8 hours+ a day , and for what?? Ever noticed after a lunch break production is halted. What a waste of a life for just surviving wage. I take the job (bid) bust out 5 hours day take maybe 3 10-15 minute breaks get a hell of a lot more done.

Pretty accurate. I played "professionally" (IE it was my only source of income) for all of 2008 and the better part of 2009. I made enough money to sustain myself, but little more than that. By Fall of 2009 I was mentally drained and didn't even like poker anymore. So I went back to the 9-5. Money was about the same and I was spending less time "working" than when I was grinding tournaments. Thought about getting back into it, but then Black Friday happened and Full Tilt shut their doors to American players, so I jumped to sports betting
I'll still occasionally play a tournament here and there, pulling some old stats, my most recent (like in the past 3-5 years) relevant cashes on Merge appear to be for:
$3,830 (1st of 828)
$2,772 (4th of 124)
$975 (2nd of 54)
$788 (1st of 65)
$1,151 (2nd of 37)
That was pretty typical for my "pro" days, just more what 2-3 months would look like, not several years!
Looking at my old stats and topics like these always kinda make me want to get back into it, but I'm not sure I have the patience these days!

I use to grind at poker a lot. Couldn't stand the hours it took away. You have to be the type that likes to sit and do nothing. Basically that's what you do. Calculate in your head the odds of you winning the hand, look at the pot size, determine to play or not, rinse and repeat. Did it for 4+ year and hung it up for the most part. I did ok but not great, not enough to warrant the time I spent. Horses and sports betting is where it's at. A lot more freedom to move around and get things done.

Checked Sharkscope on that Merge account, shows a profit of $4,332. Would gladly you play you H/U for $500 a game, since you think you're so good. I can still log-in to that account and play anytime.

Done, I'll see what I have to fill out to go pro, if you guarantee $100 a game, run it 5x.

Guys I have been playing poker for a living for the past 10 years. Guys playing it for a living are not usually tournament players, they are cash game players. I have over $500,000 verified tournament cashes from hendonmob.com, but tournaments is not where you win the most money.
You can find your local poker room and spot the easy suspects to take most of your chips from. THE MAIN ADVICE THAT I HAVE is that your seat choice is the MOST IMPORTANT advantage in cash games.
First of all, you want to choose a game where guys are laughing and having fun. That is your game because those players actually ENJOY losing money. If you play at the table where everyone is quiet then you will struggle alot more to make a profit .
The next thing is all about seat choice. You want to sit right to the worst players on the table. Hopefully you are right between both of them. A lot of players do not know that about 80% of your winning hands come from the players to your direct left and right. The reason is because when you are in the blinds, so are they....... and when you are the button they are either the blinds or in the cut-off (new button) seat.
Of course you have to be patient, but even in a $1/3 game you should EASILY be able to average a profit of at least $300-500 per day. Now you cant play everyday depending on games at your local casino
