Betances ruptures Achilles tendon celebrating comeback.
Dellin Betances’ 2019 season was brief. The Yankees reliever who battled back from shoulder and lat injuries to make his season debut on Sunday suffered a partial tear of the left Achilles.

Aaron Boone said the reliever suffered the injury Sunday, landing awkwardly after jumping on the mound to celebrate his comeback. Betances didn’t think much of it at the time, but felt it later on.

Betances came on in the fourth against the Blue Jays on Sunday to pitch the final two outs of the inning. He threw eight pitches, holding the Jays scoreless and hitless.

The team announced the tear was found during the game Tuesday and the recommendation is for conservative rehab, not surgery at this time.

Have you ever heard of a basketball or soccer player getting injured in celebrations? This only happens in baseball.

          fukk, Dellin.

Yankees will be straight with or without him but damn I really like watching him pitch.

It's not basketball or soccer and it's also not baseball but Gus Frerotte once sprained his neck while headbutting a padded wall...

              Just wow.

Perhaps he wasn't ready to come back.

Wow, that's tragic as can be.

So easy to land wrong and really screw up a neck. That must have been a shock to everyone, from the team to the crowd to fans for days on end.

"Celebrating" isn't really accurate. It was a little hop after a strikeout...

Well, not really and not at all in what I'm saying.. The crowd is there at the stadium.

Some of that crowd won't even be fans of that team or player.

Others, fans who aren't at the stadium, might even be more affected.

I made the distinction on purpose to emphasize just how far reaching such a tragedy can be.

Maybe now you understand that point being made.

Come back to soon? Is this the trainer's fault?

Seems a little odd but it wouldn't be the first time an injured player got injured again when returning to 100% action.
