If you're not very tech savvy you can buy a preloaded one on eBay, but I'd recommend doing it yourself. When I started streaming I bought a preloaded one. It had too much junk on it and ran slow. I ended up doing a factory reset to wipe it clean and loaded everything myself. Troypoint.com is a great resource, with step by step instructions for the best apks/apps.

I guess you can have Directv and still hookup fire stick on the side and use that as well when not using Directv.

I wouldn't mind using firestick to watch all football games rather then pay a small fortune to Directv for the NFL league pass.. I got the fastest internet speed available in my area FIOS so I'm sure the speed won't be a problem to support firestick.

Rudy... you want to definitely invest in something built with more RAM than a FireStick. Look around.... you need something with at least 4GB of RAM.

When the firestick was first released..... there was also something called a Firebox. IMO the box was better than the stick. This was about 2-3 years ago. So, I'm sure there are a lot of things better than the box now.

It all depends on how much money you want to invest in this too. It's not 100% fool proof. There can be issues as well... you need at least an internet speed of 50mbps on the download... for each Box/TV.

If you don't have a solid plan with the internet company.... and quality of speed.... no use searching any further for hardware. Again, just my opinion.

Had to return it today, printed the shipping label and back it goes, etc.. Pissed off..

So I bought Roku instead now. I saw the Firestick vs Roku reviews.. Almost the same.. Let's see if Roku works next?? All I'm seeing is cheap junk so far

Firebox should work better (than stick) if you've got space.

Roku might be better than Firebox... never did research on it.

Alot of people are gonna be in trouble if that's the case. I can understand that it takes away profits from Networks, PPV, etc.

Streaming is a way of life though, can't stop it even if it becomes criminal. People are still gonna stream regardless. Can go to a direct streaming website and stream without the use of Roku and Firestick. Websites not based in the US can't be regulated by US lawmakers.

I'd like to just have the RedZone channel and skip the rest of the "Ticket" - that's all I need. Problem is they will not do that and make you buy the entire package for $400+... Brutal. At least with Uverse I could just buy the NFL Network "RedZone Channel" w Scott Hanson for $7 a month! He's much better than Andrew Siciliano anyway.

I get NFL sunday ticket every year off Directv.. NBA league pass too.. I love being able to watch all games anytime with just a click of the Directv remote. Can Split screens, DVR record games, fast forward thru them later on, etc.. All at the fingertips of my Directv Genie remote.. LOVE IT

That's hard to beat as a gambler and sports fan.. Gotta pay to play though.. Directv is not cheap for all that. You ignore your bills and they just begin to grow magically higher over the months. Directv are crooks. Like I said in an earlier post you gotta call in every 3 months and threaten to cancel because the bill is so high..

They will reduce your bill when threatening to cancel even if you are bluffing. I've called in probably 100 times over the past 10 years. It's saved me $1000's over the years. I found it's all about the rep you get on the phone also, some are really cool and try to save you a buck and some are stubborn and short and just won't bend..

A call in story to Directv -

I literally called in 3 months ago, said I want to cancel service, they then transfer to me to the cancellation department.. They ask me why are you cancelling service? I say my bill is to high!!! They then say let's see what we can do for you.. I say ok.. This rep saved $5 bucks and said there were no promos at this time.. I said ok I'll keep service.

I call back again 30 minutes later and talk to a new friendly rep.. Just a nice girl cause I wanted to cancel my protection program, wasn't even thinking they'd reduce my bill after the 1st call in.. Talked about the weather for a bit, and at the end of the second call in I saved $30 off my bill with this other rep.. Same day call ins completely different results, she worked the bill to find ways to save money and found a promo..

So, call in and save money Directv costumers, don't be lazy, make it habit every 3 months.. It's right there for the taking, get a friendly rep.
