los alamitos quarter horse and thoroughbred split cards originated it a few years ago. real fun bet. all you need is 2nds or better. big california tracks have had it for at least the last 5 years also.

Santa Anita no longer has it, unfortunately.

When I was 13, and was in love with the bet, I changed the last leg from the chalk to "Jeff's Ack." Was 9/9 going into the 10th and the favorite won, Jeff's Ack ran 4th. Got $1,500 or so for 9/10 but I would have taken the whole pool. 20 years later that still kills me.

good comparison and with better horses and a unique racetrack layout .. msw and allowance races carry abut $130k purse..that stretch though..you think the race is over and then they switch cameras and there's still a 100 yards to go lol

sept. 1, 6, 8, 9 and 13th to be precise. no short fields there. usually 14 in every race. maiden races go for 140k. grass used to be 2' tall. they have since trimmed it down to 6". horses run up a hill down a slope around a corner up another slope and then a left turn and straighten out for a very long stretch. takeout is lowest in the country. handle is strong. .10 supers commonly pay in the thousands.
