Tony Parker agrees to join Hornets

After 17 iconic seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, Tony Parker will sign with the Charlotte Hornets, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Parker, a four-time NBA champion, 2007 Finals MVP and six-time All-Star, will join Charlotte head coach James Borrego, who was a former assistant with San Antonio. Parker also now reunites with French national teammate Nicolas Batum.
The Spurs remained in discussions with Parker on a new deal, but he had significant interest from the Hornets and Denver Nuggets, league sources said. Parker is expected to assume a backup role to Hornets All-Star guard Kemba Walker.
Parker, 36, averaged 7.7 points and 3.5 assists in 55 games last season. As the Spurs’ season progressed, coach Gregg Popovich made the decision to make Dejounte Murray the full-time starting point guard.
Parker was the No. 28 overall pick by the Spurs in the 2001 NBA draft, and his departure now marks the end of a memorable run alongside franchise legends Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan, who retired in 2016.

I agree with Sammy. Spurs fans did not want to see him go.

Rebuilding time for the Spurs, it happens at some point to every team that had an amazing run.. Pop has his work cut out him for the next few years unless they can get a bunch of young talent from a Leonard trade deal now..

Spurs gotta get something for Leonard now.. Can't let him walk away next year in free agency and then the Spurs get nothing for him..

He should he's getting old as shiiit now.. Not sure how he can keep the respect of all the young players about to start coming in.. Pop is a good coach though and I'm pretty sure he loves what he does.. I doubt he retires but he probably should.. Losing regularly is never fun, Pop is about to start experiencing that alot now..

Doesn't matter, Leonard is probably on his way out as well anyways now.. Parker was barely getting PT anymore and I don't think Parker had a huge voice anymore on this Spurs team.. I don't see that as a factor...

The speculation is around 2020. Pop is signed through 2020 and will surely coach through the end of his contract, the big question is will he still coach beyond that. As far as respect, Pop is one of the all time greats and continually gets the best from his players and for him it's not just a business, he genuinely cares about his guys. With the big 3 gone, by 2020 and the recent passing of his wife, I think he retires. He loves the game, but as Pop has said himself, it's just a game and there are more important things in life.
