#20The Philadelphia Eagles traded Jon Dorenbos to the New Orleans Saints in August without knowing that his career was over. A few months after the former long-snapper learned of his football-playing fate, though, the Eagles made sure he was still a part of the team.
Dorenbos was forced to retire before the regular season after a physical revealed an aortic aneurysm that required immediate surgery. On Friday, he arrived in Minneapolis at invitation of Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to watch his former team play in its first Super Bowl. Even better? Philadelphia is giving Dorenbos, who played for the team from 2006 to 2016, his very own Super Bowl ring.
“Had I played, I’d die. If you can’t play in it, this is the next best way to enjoy it,” Dorenbos said after the game, per Joel A. Erickson of The New Orleans Advocate. “Mr. Lurie called me and said he wants me to be a part of it, said I was here a long time and he said ‘We’re going to win this, and you’re going to get a ring.”Comment -
