I'll know they've taken over the world when they buy Aston Villa as well.

Someone answer me this? Is Real able to recoup this money or most of it, or do these owners have deep pockets and don't mind blowing money? Juve was rumored to selling Buffon for 80 million which blew my mind, but this! American sports owners for the most part (even if no cap) always seem to be concerned with the bottom line!

must me TV $$ that allows it.

For example, I read sometime back, in the NFL for example, the TV $ is so huge, even if not one fan paid for an actual ticket and went to the stadium, the owners still make $$

the answer to this is more complex than i'll make it sound but essentially the difference between every other club in Europe and particuarly the biggest clubs is Real have no outstanding debt. These players fees are being paid for by the bank as an overdraft and Real will probably pay it back over the next three years, but because they have no debt the figure isn't as crazy financially to them as one would think

Contrast that with Man Utd, they have to pay 50M POUNDS a year just on the interest to cover the loans the Glazer family took out to buy Man Utd. The reason the Glazer family are hated in manchester is because when they took over Man Utd owed nothing other than a small overdraft. The morning after the Glazers took over they were 500M in debt because the Glazers attatched the debt to the club.

In short, Real Madrid owed very little until these transfers whereas every top Premier club is massively in debt. Chelsea run at a massive loss every year and it's bankrolled by Abramovich, if he pulled out tommorow Chelsea would be cooked.

Real jerseys are the most marketable in the world. I wouldn't be surprised if Kaka and Ronaldo jerseys sell 10 million each this year worldwide. They will recoup the money very fast.

Don't forget the investment side. Real buys a couple of the very best players, is more successful with them, and a few years down the road ends up selling them for more than what they bought them for. Money is all relative.

And it wouldn't surprise me if there is an intimidation factor in play as well. By driving up the going rates, at this fast pace, Real is telling less affluent teams to not even bother trying to join the ranks of the super rich.
