Thanks for all the great hurricane survivor material, most of it I already know my native Floridian. Yeah I went to Naples from Miami Beach, One flood zone to the next, now I'm headed to Lakeland Florida where my parents reside & gonna hunker down in that area for this storm. Where are you buddy ?

I'm in Houston where my house was turned into an island for almost 2 weeks. 5 foot of water throughout my neighborhood but my house stayed dry thankfully. We're just getting back on our feet and now Irma. I have friends and family all through the islands, south and central Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. This is an unreal hurricane. This thing is going to make a direct Cat 4 hit on South Florida and run right up the center. You feel totally helpless because there is nothing you can do for people in harms way. All we can do at this point is pray while people shelter in place. Lakeland might get 12" of rain but hopefully the winds will die down. Stay safe and keep us updated.

Per a news article he put a ladder on a table because it wasn't tall enough. The table tipped, then gravity did it's thing. Sucks for him, but don't do stupid shit.

that wind interactive map showed top winds in this "bad ass" storm to be only 81 mph and weakening by the hour.... they are down to 72-73 now..... this thing won't even qualify as a tropical depression by the time it hits land.....
the media is loving the ratings they're getting, so they're misleading the shit out of the general public about the severity of this so-called hurricane.....

Not buying it, you don't know why he fell off the ladder. Thousands travel the roadway everyday and many die in accidents. When a guy dies in a car accident heading to his office job, they don't usually blame the job on the death.
But maybe we should, after all, no job to get to, no need to drive, no accident. I guess every to and from work fatality auto accident should just be blamed on jobs.
It's a reach, but whatever makes you feel at ease with the storm that hasn't hit Florida yet.

His death is storm related no matter how you look at it. Just like someone having a heart attack because they are stressed. It's cause and effect. Would he normally go up a ladder on top of a box? Nope. Would he normally have to board up his house? Nope. Would he probably hire someone to do it if they were available? Who knows but the pending hurricane caused him to act (careless I might add). This hurricane will probably kill many people because they will make poor decisions. Part of the game.

The police officer that died in Houston, driving into 30 feet high water on his way to work was due to the Storm, even though he was going to work. No storm, no water, no need to drive in different directions, no drowning. The most dangerous thing employees do is drive to work, during work and from work. When someone dies while on the job, that is an on the job fatality. In the energy industry this is the highest risk potential for companies. And it's usually a 3rd party contractor working on behalf of the company that gets killed. Doesn't matter, it's still a company related fatality and therefore an on the job work accident. Which means insurance has to pay accident benefits to their family as well.

It is not about placing blame. It is an accident. You can't blame her daughter anymore than you can blame a storm. BUT it is a tragedy/accident RELATED to the daughter going to school. It is a tragedy/accident RELATED to a storm that's coming. The woman would have never gotten in her car if her daughter didn't have to go to school. Her daughter is no way to blame BUT her going to school created the event. Same for this guy. Irma is no way to blame but Irma created the event that caused him to feel like he needed to get on a ladder. It's not about placing blame. We cannot blame the ladder, table, or storm but they are all RELATED to this accident.

We had a man die from a heart attack. Was it the stress from his house flooding? Was it him being out of shape? Could he have lived if paramedics could get to his house? Could he have died even if there wasn't a hurricane? We will never know. But he died during a catastrophe and will always be linked to the event, right or wrong. If you ask his family 20 years from now about Hurricane Harvey, they will tell you that they lost their dad during that hurricane.

Right? All the models keep saying it's going to turn, but it still hasn't started. I'm heading to New Orleans because if it follows the path now it's going to slam right into Tampa Bay. However, it wouldn't surprise me to see it miss almost completely because it keeps going west. Oh well, even if that happens I could think of worse things than a weekend in NOLA
