I think it's preemptive. If they go down in the series and he takes over, looks like the team is using Brown as a scapegoat. And you have a 3rd straight finals with an asterisk. If he comes back it has to be when they are up or tied. Looks a little better if he comes back when they are up.

Zero competition until finals. They may win regardless. But if they lose tonight and somehow get swept in Cleveland to go down 3-1, and then he comes back, it looks like he is saying Brown is the problem. Plus he gets extended rest between finals games just like the players. If he's gonna do it, now is the time.
