Talk is growing about a new law to be approved and passed soon in regards to fake news reporting. I think it is long over due as there is no place for it in the media world.. People and or News Reporting agencies should absolutely be held legally responsible when fake news is reported based on no factual information...

I hate reading or seeing fake stuff, it's misleading, it could and does damage personal character, and is simply just wrong..

Tabloids have been around for a very long time. If people are worried about it they can sue the publication for libel. Trying to restrict freedom of press, and speech, is unconstitutional.

There is no way a gag order press law will EVER pass. Something is published that's not true? Sue them for libel. It's simple. Hulk Hogan did it and got paid.

Only a complete and utter moron would want a law that would allow politicians to control the media. That's the first step to imprisoning people because they don't agree with the government.

Don't be stupid and fall for fake news. Fact check. If you haven't heard of the publication before then it's probably bullshit.

What they need to do is make a distinction between media and surrogates for political parties. The NY Post and CNN are political organizations. They may also report news but first and foremost they are political surrogates and should not be protected as such any more than the democratic party should. Same goes for the Republicans.

No one wants to try and force the Times or CNN to be mainstream. They are businesses and can pursue any business they choose. The Times has admitted they would suffer financially if they produced unbiased news. It's not what their readers want. But they can not hide behind the first amendment and spew propaganda and be protected.

Know what you're watching. I'm sure I could come up with a plethora of unverified things Fox News reported about Obama. Just as I could come up with a ton of things other publications published about Bush. And so on and so forth. You don't gag the media. If you watch Fox News then you know you're a Republican. If you watch CNN then you know you're a democrat. You don't have to agree with everything they say.

I supported the Independent party for years and never took sides, I've watched both CNN and FOX for years to keep an open and objective view of things coming from both parties.. I'm a rare oddity in those regards and I wish more voters did the same..

I don't watch any of the news networks, I only have Netflix, Hulu, and then ESPN, HBO, and other TV apps from getting a few people's log in info for their actual cable subscription. I get the majority of my information via articles from all over the internet. So I can't really talk about certain news stations as being biased (I rarely read any articles from any of the major TV news outlets). I do know my father only watches Fox News, and being exposed to that for years when I lived with him I feel like I can comment on that some.

I do think fake news is stupid, and it amazes me how many people share blatantly fake news articles, but just do not believe it's in anyone's best interest to try and censor them via laws that could result in gagging of legit news.

There are laws in place for out right lies. Hell, I saw something the other day that James Woods is suing a dead Twitter user for claiming he is a cocaine addict. So definitely there if necessary.
