#38I didn't read through all of the comments, but saw that the goalkeeper Danilo survived. He survived the crash and called his wife at the hospital, bud sadly, passed away. There's a selfie of him and his teammate that survived before takeoff. You just never know when your time is and it's scary.Comment -

#40They put this team together just two years ago and they were already at this point. They won't have any problems finding free agents and other players. Lokomotiv in Russia moved on the following year and have a complete team, with some ex-NHL players on it as well.Comment -

#45Don't know how many players would want to go there. It would be depressing and they won't be dominating much. It would be better if they folded at their height which is now.Comment -

#47Teams should separate their team into two groups on to two different planes. In case something like this happens.Comment -

#50"I spoke with president Marco Polo del Nero and he told me the game against Atletico Mineiro, which is our next game, we're going to have a big event in Chapeco, which is going to be scheduled," Tozzo said.
"I replied to him: 'But we don't have 11 players to put on the field!'
"He said to me: 'You guys have it. You have a base team [Under-20s). Put on the players that are recovering from injury, which is five or six players, and another who is ready to play, and then complete the team with juniors.
"It doesn't matter what the final score is. We have to have a big party that you deserve, that Chapeco deserves, that the region deserves, that Santa Catarina deserves, and that Brazil deserves.'"Comment -

#51Tragic, tragic news. I bet a lot of Brazilian Serie A and had watched a handful of Chapo games this year. They had great home support and a lot of good players that always made their home games fun to watch. I caught the last 15 minutes of the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana semi-final vs. San Lorenzo which they played in front of a full house at their stadium. In an odd twist, in the last minute of extra time with the teams tied on aggregate (and Chapo ready to advance on away goals) a San Lorenzo player got the ball at point blank range in front of the Chapo goal, and the goalkeeper Danilo made an amazing save with his leg that saw them through to the final, and the crowd cheered loudly. In a morbid reflection, if that shot had gone into the goal like it most assuredly looked like it would, Chapo would have never been on that plane to Colombia. Life is truly a strange journey, where sometimes inches determine life and death, and how sometimes things we celebrate at the time they happen actually end up being a curse, and some things we lament and/or regret at the time end up being a blessing.
With the exception of vacations, I can safely say that I have at least skimmed over soccer lines from leagues all over the world every day for the last 10 years. After I heard about this terrible accident, I just didn't feel like it at all. I don't know, it seems almost disrespectful to even care about what the lines are for at least a few days, if not more. My heart feels sad, because I know how enthusiastic and joyful this team was (having watched them numerous times), and I feel bad for all their faithful fans in the small town of Chapeco, who love this club.
God bless all the passengers who left us on that flight, and may all their families find some healing to deal with their immense loss.Comment -

Atletico Nacional will be in the Club World Cub taking place in Japan in a few weeks, and more than likely (if they both get by their first round matches) will be playing Real Madrid in the final for the World Championship. I'm quite sure there will be some sort of tribute to the victims and Chapocoense in that tournament.Comment -

#53My grandparents rarely flew when they were young(after about 30 they never flew at all) but before that they would always take separate flights, odds are both wouldn't crash and the fam would survive...my parents did the same thing and I will probably never fly again...only way I'm flying is on a small private plane with a parachute...I can only imagine the horror of going down in a commercial jet. Can't go out like that.Comment -

#59All aircraft (at least US and military) carry a "bingo" fuel to their divert airfield if the primary is unavailable. Soon as they hit bingo they're heading to the next airfield...not sure what the pilot was doing. Also, weather, headwinds, weight of the aircraft, etc all play a factor in how much fuel is burned. The story read that the distance from Bolivia to Medellin is right on the
edge for this planes max distance before needing fuel.Comment -

#60Not exactly clear what the pilot was doing...I don't understand why they didn't land much sooner anywhere to refuel when it was clear that they were cutting it close either way
I have this problem where tragedies like this stick with me for a while and I read up on the back stories. Been reading about it and have seen all of the players and the team's last videos etc and I've just been in a little funk this whole week
Now today Joe McKnight was murdered and I liked the guy as a Jet fan..fukk manComment -

#68this whole thing is such a sad mess, there are so many issues where to start, 1 the club was saving money using a cheaper airlines than a bigger more well known airline, the airline company only had 1 plane working the other 2 were out of matience, the plane was better served for short flights this was almost to the range it was supposed to go, they needed to refuel but since they left so late the place they needed to stop and refuel was closed, the air traffic control of colombia made them wait because another plane had a problem needed to land, the waiting caused them to run out of fuel, they weren't allowed to fly straight from brazil to colombia because the brazil airline authority does not allow a plane certified in another country to fly directly to destination, if they used a plane based out of brazil or colombia they could of had direct flight, they had to change planes in bolivia to this doomed plane, it's so sad that the soccer club decided to save some money and used this company with only 1 plane, also more people prob would of been saved but one of the survivors said alot of the players were standing up and yelling, the survivor was in a crash position, and lastly the people that survived were at the back of the plane it's def better to be at the back of the plane than the front or middleComment
