Online Petition Calls For Bob Uecker To Replace Joe Buck At World Series by Mike Cole on Mon, Oct 24, 2016 at 2:56PM 1,324

The World Series already figures to be a true “Fall Classic” in every sense of the phrase, but some baseball fans are hoping Harry Doyle is able to be the voice of this historic series. Fans have started an online petition at Change.org to try and get Bob Uecker — who played the fictitious Doyle in the “Major League” movies — to replace FOX’s Joe Buck as the play-by-play announcer for the World Series. Uecker, a former big leaguer himself, who made a career behind the mic as the play-by-play man for the Milwaukee Brewers, made fans laugh for years both in real life and on the silver screen. Plenty of baseball fans know his “Major League” calls by heart, as he provided the soundtrack to Cleveland Indians games in the movies. Despite 25,000 online signatures as of Monday afternoon, it’s fairly obvious nothing will come of this. But at the very least, it’s an excuse to look back on some of Uecker’s finer work. We can’t help but wonder had John Candy still been alive, whether fans also would clamor for him to get in the booth with Uecker, too.

Agreed Joe Buck is terrible but at least we don't have to listen to both him and Tim McCarver.
