I think the wording of the question is also misleading... "they did not have enough money to cover a $400 emergency expense."

Why use emergency? What emergency would only cost $400? Nobody has money to throw away for any and all emergencies. Be more specific. Most people have their money already allocated. They are not going to allocate another expense unless they know what and why.

A better question would be... "If I could sell you a 70" 4K UHD TV for $400, could you come up with the money?" OR "If I could get you a new truck for $400, how long would it take you to get the money?" I bet almost 90% of America could find the money. People will find money for what they want. Hell, how many people have $600 iphones?

Give me an example of a $400 emergency? That sounds like a pyramid scheme. Emergencies in my house are going to cost much more than $400. $400 is an inconvenience not an emergency. The question is confusing because, hell no am I'm coming up with $400 for bullshit.

Stop taking it so literal...It just means if there was suddenly a $400 expense today (blown tires or something) people would have to do what you said to come up with the money or I guess put it on credit

Very sad that half the people coulnt just get $400 cash like we think of $20 or something
