Memphis expected to reach deal with Tubby Smith some time today

Interesting hire. Initial reaction has been dour, but what else is to be expected. I think he'll do fine put Memphis back on the map. Minnesota and Texas Tech are tough jobs and he had both schools overperforming. And look at Minnesota now. I bet BigDay wishes he could have him back!

It's not a home run hire but of the available names after you get past Gregg Marshall and Buzz Williams, you're looking at Andy Kennedy, Steve Forbes, Lorenzo freaking Romar...I'll take Tubby easy over any of those guys

Tubby will have to have a good recruiter as an assistant. Tubby is a great X and O guy, but a sub par recruiter. In all honesty though, the Memphis job isn't very hard. Get the studs in the city to stay, give them a little X and O teaching, and you've got a tournament team most years. There's so many good coaches out there scrapping away at small schools that could have made a final four with some of the teams sorry Pastner had there

Hopefully he is getting Paaaaaid because he's following in Fred Hoiberg's footsteps. Best two players have injuries that could carry on and Grizz were already on the back side of the mountain.

100% spot on.

The problem now is Texas Tech countered and that's put a bit of a delay on this. And if it's not tubby then the list gets worse. But even coaches I don't like will win better than clown ass Pastner. I just now hope it's tubby because I've gotten myself all convinced that he'd be good basically for all the reasons you said above. A guy with a major clue in a job that recruits the local area on its own
