I have good friends that moved from US to France. They tell me that the education (for their daughter) and the health care system are way better than here. They rave about the socialized health care system there. Granted, it's just one anecdote. But these are very intelligent people whose opinion I highly respect.

they may very well be intelligent but they are still people so it is really anecdotal like you said. That is why I like things like QS-rating for schools because they actually have quantitative measures which show the best schools are clearly in USA. Not every top ranking is in the US, there are plenty of top level schools all over the world but the majority are clearly in the USA. And, if their daughter is in k-12 then I have no doubt they have better education than us. Absolutely no doubt in my mind. We pay the most per child in the developed world and get mediocre results.
Same goes for healthcare. Not every case but the majority of the best care is offered by the specialist and centers in this country. People don't travel out of the country for better health care, they do it because it is cheaper out-of-pocket. People travel here for better health care, they don't care about the price.Comment -
