Next POTUS - Not that I am overly interested as a German, but....

here are my thoughts as an unbiased observer from another state:

1. IMO the only way you'll have an interesting election would be if it is Bernie Sanders vs Donald Trump. That could and would be interesting. Hillary Clinton vs Trump or Clinton vs Bush or Clinton vs whoever would be boring af.

2. What is so scary for a lot of guys when it comes to Bernie Sanders? The word socialist? Because imho, he stands for a lot of good things. A lot of people are complaining about a lot of things where he would clearly be a good choice, but the same people would never vote for him:
a) Veterans. Sanders wanted to spend more for them last year.
b) Government threads to privacy. Very conservative in fact when it comes to that. He sounds like Rand Paul when he is speaking about it.
c) Infrastructure. Sanders stated that the USA need to invest in their infrastructure; streets, bridges, trains etc. And, again IMO, he is absolutel right. Your infrastructure is indeed in a terrible condition and getting worse. It is alarming.
d) Trade. He is against NAFTA and rightfully so. Against PTNR. You guys lost nearly 20% of your manufacturing jobs in the last 5 years alone! A whole class of people should vote for him because of this fact alone.
e) War. He was against war in Iraq from the beginning. Nonetheless he isn't blind when it comes to problems like ISIS. I think he is very reasonable in his thoughts about war and peace.



Now don't get me wrong, this is not a pro-Sanders rant. But I think a lot of people are voting against their own best interests.



3. And gtfo with all this Democrats/Republicans are better than Democrats/Republicans. Bullshit. The reason why your Two-party system works fairly well for a fair amount of time now is because both parties are not totally opposing sides of a medal. Each party has their fair amount of total assholes and idiots and each party has some good guys. And each party as well has a wide spectrum of views and opinions. A guy that voted Bush may very well find a guy in the Democratic party that he likes and a guy who voted Obama might as well find a guy from the GOP he likes.


4. What is so nice about Donald Trump? Other than his "Make Amerika great again" slogan? Don't get me wrong, he has some very nice points, fe NAFTA (just like Sanders...). But he is concentrating on the wrong things. "Wall across the border, make Mexico pay for it" yadda yadda. It is a problem for you guys. Fair enough. But it is not THE problem. And he won't win shit if he he isn't able to get the blacks and hispanics in his boat. And with some of his ideas he could actually get some of them, but he doesn't. Attacking left and right is good and fun to watch and read. But it leads nowhere, sorry. Romney was the last person who thought he could win with white votes alone.... (and just btw, even though I hate Romney, he would have been a good choice for Germany, a better choice than Obama actually, so I am not biased at all).

10. Gay marriage, border to Mexico, etc., if you vote a person because of his specific views of such a topic, you shouldn't vote at all. Seriously, I think guys shouldn't focus on small minor things like that, but get information about the whole package. And then decide what gives you the most good. You don't like gay marriage, that's why you're voting for Person A? Or you hate the word "socialist" that's why you are not voting B? Or just because you are black you voted for a black president? Trump does not need to be in the race. He'll get bored and flame out at some point when his novelty wears off and he's not ahead anymore.

Our most active voter base hasn't died yet, and until they do, we're going to get the worst possible candidates in this election. Old people have either poor understanding of politics, or have a good understanding but are far too radicalized one way or another to think straight. You're supposed to look to your elders for guidance and wisdom. Not this fukking generation. They ARE the problem, and will continue to be until they're gone.

You actually CAN tell blacks and hispanics to go screw and still win. It's just not probable.

Blacks don't vote for the greater good, they only vote for what will benefit them the most. Not to say that others don't do this too, but not at the staggering rate blacks will. So whoever can convince them the best will have a nice advantage.

Hispanics are harder to pin down since they don't always think in lockstep like other minority groups do. Targeting them like Trump does is obviously not the way to go.

Sanders could be a staunch socialist, that doesn't mean the country will fall into socialism. It will not. No surprise though, our resident xenophobes actually do think this will happen and we'll be Scandinavian by 2025.

None of this matters anyway. Our congress is so fractured and FUBAR, dedicating 100% of your time and resources to fixing it alone would take decades.
