#73Alright, so I watched the video and my honest conclusion is this... the two teams went cold in the final three minutes of the game. What's so implausible about that? Just because you desperately want to believe the fix was in, doesn't make it so. There were some bad shots, but there were also two or three very good shots that simply rimmed out... in other words, just like any other scoreless stretch during any span of any basketball game. You're always going to have some good shots mixed in with bad shots. The only difference here is that even the good shots didn't fall.
The Pelicans, having the lead, were content to let some clock tick on a couple of possessions, so the three minutes flew by. But the Pelican player who jacked up a three from the top of the key had the ball just miss off the back iron. Later on, Westbrook misses a three from the top of the key, having the ball hit the front and the back of the rim... so you can clearly see that they were at least trying to score, which runs counter to your claim that players were missing shots on purpose.
In fact, the very player you designated as the main focus of your argument, Russell Westbrook, didn't even take any terrible shots. Anybody whose watched Russell Westbrook knows that his game is just what you saw in that clip... he appears at times to play out of control, for better or for worse. But all his "missed layups" were off-balance contested shots in the paint... which is what I figured.
The good shots that didn't quite connect were very close. I hope you don't expect me to believe that these players have a supernatural ability to shoot a jumpshot so precise, that they can coax the ball to within inches of falling, only to have it rim out.
Let's face it, if Kevin Durant had been playing, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now, because "Iceberg Slim" would have hit a dagger or two, and your whole position would be rendered moot. But without him on the floor, there was no absolute go-to guy to get a bucket at the critical moments... doesn't mean the others didn't try. It just means the others aren't Kevin Durant.
As for the officials, I didn't see any blatant non-call. To the contrary... if anything had been whistled during that three minute stretch, the average basketball fan would have deemed it "ticky tack." Good no-calls, imo.
So basically I watched the video that you were adamant would illustrate you point, and all I saw was a basketball game. This three minute span, that you insisted was rife with corruption, showed a mix of good/bad shots and some clean, tenacious defense. If this is your smoking gun evidence, then you should probably go back to the drawing board, this time with your head out of your ass.Comment -

#75In this day and age... you aren't going to find middles anymore. Lines were loose years ago. Lines are way too sharp now. Again... all I'm giving you is my opinion. We don't know what really happened? We don't know if someone dropped 10 million in wagers on over 200.5 we don't know when the line went to 199.5 that people hammered the Under for 10 million because the line came down on steam? Again... my comment sounds crazy? You may think that... but we really don't know what happened? We do know that it looked like a circus out there for the last 3 minutes... and quite frankly... didn't look like there was solid defense at all. It looked like 2 teams not trying to score. Refs certainly not calling any fouls.Comment -

10 seconds to go. Ball goes to OKC what's the first thing Pelicans should do. Foul right. No attempt at all to foul and force free throws. This team was only down 2 points. Clearly fixed. All the timeouts and Coach did not tell them what to do if ball was given to OKC after the reviewComment -

He just goes with the ball, hits the rim with it and let NO get the ball ... then when NO is about to score the coach calls timeout to slow things down.Comment -

#83Russ did look careless on some of those shots, seemed he wasnt looking at the rim much, he might have been the only one who took a shot for the Thunder the last 3 minutes. The Thunder look exhausted also, especially Russ, even though he's his normal energizer bunny self in the clip. A few of those shots from both teams are very close to going in though and can you answer this question that I asked on page one, if the total was rigged, why would they score 200 at the 3 minute mark, that right there doesnt make any sense to me if a rig was indeed in place. Also Im not getting why you think it needed to land on 200 for whom to cash or not pay out as much out? Vegas, books, who?
But for a second Ill assume it was rigged and they reached the determined mark at the 3 minute mark, if such a scenario was in place and a large amount of money was in jeopardy, I dont think you would have seen that many shots taken even, you would have seen sloppy play, turnovers galore, nothing left to chance if such was the case.Comment -

#84Russell Westbrook is Russell Westbrook. He's never had a smooth jumper. He's always had a penchant for wild drives to the basket, or questionable shot selection. This has been the rap on him from day one. So what exactly in this clip represents some stark deviation from the norm? The shots didn't fall, plain and simple. The one from the top of the key, however, went halfway down. It seems like he was playing with fire on that one, if the goal was to not score at all costs. As for the drives, it looked like he was leaning in, in an attempt to draw contact. When he didn't get fouled, he was forced to toss up some off-kilter shot at the rim. The effort was there though.
As far as him "not looking at the rim" I don't even know wtf that means... What was he looking at, the concessions booth?
Like I said, there was no Kevin Durant on the floor to facilitate a crunch-time score. It looked like two teams with tired legs trying to manufacture a basket as best they could, and in the end, coming up short.Comment -

#86I can't believe this thread is still going.
After watching the video, there should be no question (as if there were any anyhow) that this game wasn't fixed. These guys were shooting early in practically every possession. If you're purposely going to milk the time away, finishing the game without any points being scored, why in the world would you shoot the ball early in each possession?
You wouldn't.
Guys, it's Christmas. Take off the tinfoil hats and enjoy a little eggnog.Comment -

#90You can't get to players to have games fixed since they make too much money for it to be worth it. The only ones that you can get it are the refs. The refs didn't prevent the teams from scoring.
Not only that, but that total was the worst case scenario for the sports book.Comment -

#93NBA basketball is not fixed, it's just played by low-IQ, undisciplined, selfish pricks who have the concentration of a 4-year old and no idea of shot selection. Despite the physical advantage, they are way behind European basketball in mental and tactical aspects of the game which make the games extremely hard to predict. As far as I'm concerned NBA is a betting hell and -though I indulge myself from time to time- I try to stay away.Comment -

#95Exactly.
Utah vs Memphis 2 days ago was the same - in the NBA as well.
The live line during halftime was 186.5 - I actually took lots of screenshots from this one:
167 points with 1:34 remaining --> ended with 188 points!!
And these 2 teams barely scored during the game ... but in 1:30 minutes they managed to score 21 points ... how sick is that???
Proofs:
1:34 to go
40 seconds to go
Final score!
Line during halftime is 186.5 ... now who is going to tell me NBA is NOT rigged ?!?!??!?!?!?!?!
You are BLIND if you're thinking otherwise!Comment -

#96I give up on the "NBA=WWE" crowd, specifically the ones who insist that players are "acting" and simply at the mercy of a shadowy screenplay.
These are probably the dumbest collection of people I've ever come across. They lack, among other things, a fundamental understanding of basketball, as well as human nature.
The OP's handle is "don'tknowhowtobet." That, clearly, is not just some cheeky moniker. It pretty much sums up his entire disposition, although a more fitting name probably would be "don'tknowjackshitingeneral" or "IQofchimp."Comment -
