last game the pirate catcher did not block the plate before getting the ball and was called for interference. today in the cubs game vs pirates, the cub's catcher was clearly blocking the plate before he even had possession of the ball and the runner was still called out. unreal!

buster posey would disagree. i agree with your sentiments. if you block the plate, you have to prepare to be ran over. period. but this is in the rule book now and mlb cannot even interpret it correctly is all I'm saying.

so now we got clear blocking the plate in this angels vs. rangers game and they award the run. this rule is so confusing.

how pathetic they counted that run.....BLOCKING the plate and tagging someone out in front of it are 2 different things

I wish they'd get rid of the rule. I feel sorry for all the catchers who had severe injuries from collisions.... but... it's part of the game. The rule sucks. When you play catcher... you have to be ready for anything. Don't be a puss.

lost the no runs in first inning because of this.

the call on the field should have stood, what was there to overturn this call? I mean, the catcher moved his leg and the runner got a proper slide in, clearly the ball got there before and all.

the total ended up 7 and not 6 too. fck that rule! it was even more obvious in the other game and they disallowed the run saying there was no blocking the plate by catcher.

Clear obstruction in cubs game. That should be inside the park hr. This rule, why is it even in place if interpretation is always wrong

I personally can't stand the rule but you gotta admit it was pretty sweet to see it cost Posey and the Giants the game against Pit earlier this season.

giants/white sox game. this is one of the dumbest rules ever implemented by mlb. just giving teams free runs left and right on obvious outs.

dumbest penetrating rule out there, truly.

End game of this rule is they expect the catcher to literally move away from the plate... that's liberal logic

I was just going to start a thread about this.

This rule is an absolute joke.

It's way too subjective, and it's changing the outcome of games.

Adam Dunn in right field is pretty hilarious though.
