talk about desperation 3 years 45 mil. 15 mil. a year for a 36 year old. Don't think Yanks realize they need to make the playoffs before Beltran could deliver in the playoffs.

#8Beltran, Ellsbury, Soriano, Texieria, Jeter, McCann, A-Rod (when he comes back), Gardner or Ichiro
Yankees will probably trade Brett Gardner and one of their top catcher prospects for a stud pitcher or Brandon PhillipsComment -

#9Yanks just overreacted (once again) to Cano leaving.
Instead of trying to work out a trade for Price or going after Jimenez, they toss $45M at a 36 year old, injury prone, outfielder.
Top notch, Cashman.
In the meantime, the Sox sign a player that fell in love with the city of Boston and how the Sox do things. I'd rather have Napoli at 16/yr then Beltran at 15 (and one more year)

#15Gardner is your everyday left fielder, chief. Sure, that lineup looks good on paper but what happens when Ellsbury gets hurt, Jeter doesn't produce, Tex is the same slugger?? Talk about fukked. No pitching. No bench. Aging lineup (again).

#17Yes, they were. You're right. However, if the Yanks sign Cano....no Beltran. It's pretty sad when your backup plan is a 36 year old outfielder, which they didn't necessarily need, especially at that price. Gardner and Soriano have proven they can handle the corner outfield postions.Comment -

He's a huge upgrade in right field over Ichiro at this point, bottom lineComment -

#25Garder, Ichiro, Ellsbury, Beltran, Soriano and Vernon Wells
wtf u do with that?
Ellsbury in center.......than everything is a toss up besides Wells being a bench play
Ichiro is a complete diva and is not going to move from RF for Beltran. Beltran hates Dhinng. so...assuming Ellsbury in center...Ichiro in right and Beltan in left
Gardner used for pitching? (trade)Comment -

Big Bad Hal has been saying since his shitty teams missed the playoffs that they're going to stay under the $189 million luxury tax number.
Wrong.
There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to the things that Baby Hal signs off on. At least with the old man I could see WHY he was making decisions. This guy + Cashman are clueless together.

CF: Ellsbury
RF: Gardner
That was the initial plan. Now with this horrible signing, I'm assuming they're going to put Soriano on the bench and move Gardner to RF. Off the bench they'll have Soriano, Wells and Ichiro (which I'm sure is going to ruffle some feathers)
Team blows.

#32Why are people hating this deal? Yankees needed a proven run producer. Beltran gives them that. Sure, he is older - but he can still rake if he stays healthy.
He's been reasonably healthy the last two years and will benefit from the shorter RF porch for power and whether he likes it or not, Girardi is going to slot his ass at DH some to reduce wear and tear. Serviceable lineup now. They may have overpaid a shade, but they wanted the deal done before the Winter Meetings presumably so they know what they can or cannot do with any potential further signings or trades.
I still think they did a fairly solid job of filling a lot of holes and not biting on the overpriced Cano deal to do so.Comment -
