The 1st 2 timeouts were fine. The 3rd one wasn't done to stop the clock, it was done to tell the team to let Navy score. And it worked perfectly.

But he saved about 40 seconds which would benefit him no matter what. Either they get the 1st down but there are 40 more seconds left in the game or they don't get the 1st down and you offense has an extra 40 seconds to work with.
