I think coack k is "in the discussion", as they say...

But to say its "not even close" when the Wizard of Westwood is clearly "in the discussion" is a bit presumptous...

The "Wizard of Westwood" is a joke.

He got the best players in the country year after year.

In his time, to win the Tournament, all you had to win was 4 games.

Coach K is playing in a much more competitive time with way better parity among the teams than in Wooden's time. It's not even close.

K is greater. By far.

Saying Coach K is the best college coach ever is a bit of a stretch. He is a very good coach and one of my favorites, but recruiting power based off of school recognition has a lot to do with it. I think Izzo and Pitino are right up there and they are probably about equal. Pitino, with his current job, has to compete with KY every year for recruits and he turns boys into men. Calipari just send kids into the NBA after a year of ball. Izzo has to compete with Michigan for recruits every year, and while Coach K turns very good players into better players, Izzo turns above average players into animals come March. Making the claim that Coach K is the best ever is like saying Calipari is a good coach...which is just ridiculous. Calipari is a douche who recruits well, but can't coach for shit.

I couldn't disagree more. Izzo and Pitino are good coaches but nowhere near the level of K. Izzo has won one National Championship and that was 13 years ago.

Pitino also won one National Championship and that was in 1996. He failed in the NBA.

In that time, K won National titles, Olympic gold medals, ACC Conference titles, ACC Tournament titles, and a FIBA World Championship.

This isn't even a decent discussion anymore. K is the best ever.

Period.

Without him, Duke would be nothing. Built the entire program from scratch to the greatest basketball institution of modern times.

Coached USA basketball to multiple gold medals.

Actually cares about his players getting their degrees and receiving their educations.

Most wins all time in the NCAA Tournament as well as overall.

Coach K is great. However, he lost with the 2006 USA basketball team in the world championships with LeBron, melo, wade and chris Paul all on the team. They lost to Greece. Was that a worse loss than Leigh - not sure.

Regardless, they have been a lot of great coaches, he is one of many that a case could be made for. The greatest, not sure but certainly top ten. He has lost some luster the past few years with some whining.
