So Carmelo Anthony fasted for 15 days while playing NBA basketball?
Longest I've ever gone was a day. Can't even imagine 15 days while playing basketball.
WHat's the longest you've ever gone without eating?

It was a spiritual fast whatever that means. Has nothing to do with food.

He probably didn't eat during the day or something. He'd be in rough shape if he didn't eat, let alone playing ball on top if that lol

He would die. If you went 3-4 days without eating anything and just water, and try to play 35+ minutes in an nba game, you would collapse on the hardwood.

Not to mention the 2+ hours a day he practices.

I remember reading an article about two men who fasted for 77 days without food. So I doubt he'd collapse, but it's pretty incredible nonetheless

No he would definitely collapse if playing basketball at nba-intensity while fasting for days straight. Athletes are dependent on food. When you expend that type of energy on the court you literally open yourself up to death if you continue that same routine for even a few days. You can confirm with a doctor but I'm almost certain that I'm right.

I don't think he said he didn't eat for 15 days. No way he could do it and play hoops. He couldn't make it 3 days.

I'm sure he went in to the fron office and said hey you know what I'm going to not eat for 15 days. Trust me I don't expect my performance to slip one iota. With the team paying him millions of dollars and the front office personnel high paying jobs on the line I see no way in hell he would have been allowed to do this.

Once you hit 3 days you stop craving food anyway, so getting to that point is the hardest. That is also when the body starts breaking down everything into proteins and transforming it into Glucose. That can be 'safe' up to maybe 7 days depnding on the person, after that it starts breaking down more vital cells.

It's not true. He didn't fast for 15 days.
It sounds like he was following the same diet he used two years ago.
This is not the first time Anthony has fasted during a season. In 2011, when he was with the Denver Nuggets, he fasted for 21 days beginning Jan. 9. That led into a five-game post-fast span during which Anthony averaged 35.4 points, tying his career high with a 50-point effort against Houston on Feb. 7.
He was traded to the Knicks on Feb. 22.
Anthony said in 2011 that he was following the "Daniel Fast," which is based on the biblical Book of Daniel. In a Daniel Fast, a person abstains from all meats, fish, sweets and sodas and limits his or her diet to fruits, vegetables, whole grains and water, according to the website www.daniel-fast.com, which refers to it as a "vegan diet with even more restrictions."
It seems they don't understand what fasting mean. Fasting and dieting are two different things. 'Melo was dieting.

Your body can survive without food. However you'll die within several days if your body does not get water. Think about POWs who are not fed, you can see every bone in their body. Your body will covert fat and ultimately muscle into energy to survive. However that's different from being an athlete and trying to survive a 15 day fast. I'm sure he had something small during the day. He would definitely collapse otherwise.

When Christians fast in Lent they can eat food. Just not meat, cheese, milk, fish, etc. It's not like the infidels fast when they don't eat or drink anything at all.

What is even more amazing is a guy like Josh Smith (formerly of UCLA - now with G'Town), played high D1 collegiate basketball, and gained weight. That is hard to do.

A cornerback on the vikings fasted during training camp or the beginning of the season...whenever his religion had him do it
Probably harder for a football player.
I think his last name was abdullah or something

Some people call it fasting, even though they really do eat.
Depending on the culture, but I know in Nepal they will "fast" but eat nothing but fruits, berries, nuts, pecans, etc.
Depends on what their definition of fasting is.
