That's why sooner or later change will have to be a thing of the past. Also why it's a felony to deform US currency.

Most people are actually against getting rid of the penny when polled. Not sure about the nickel. We would probably get screwed if we got rid of the penny. Everything would be rounded up.

It wouldn't matter, if the US only went back to Constitutional money,
but it matters now, because the US Mint has to get those funds from
the general Government, which in turn gets those funds from the
private banks which make up the "Federal Reserve"....
the wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round until
the dollar is almost worthless. We are one crisis away from
a total collapse of this country.

Canada's final penny was made on May 04, 2012.
Existing pennies will remain legal tender indefinitely; however, pennies will be withdrawn from circulation as of February 4, 2013.

It's not an if, it's already been decided and coming soon. The nickel will follow soon enough.
By the way, pre-1982 pennies are worth even more.

It's retarded, if you assume only one circulation of a coin.
A penny being made today for "2 cents" will circulate for a long time, and will probably be worth more than "2 cents" when it is taken out.
Government isn't in the business of making money, they're in the business of spending it.
