    Question re: teasers
Why can you tease a team up or down more points in a football game than basketball, given the number of points scored in a football game vs. basketball?

For instance, a 6.5-point football tease is the equivalent of a 5-point basketball tease at -110. So let's say I can tease a 3.5-point dog to +10 in the NFL where there will be 40-50 points scored in the game, yet I can only tease a 3.5 NBA dog to +8.5 when there will be quadruple the points scored?

Shouldn't it be the other way around (5-point football tease the equivalent of a 6.5 point basketball tease) at the very least?

7 of the 16 nfl games last week were decided by 10+ points. A couple were decided by a shit ton (Seahawks, Pats).

You can't score a touchdown in basketball.

I understand the way points are scored is different, but if I can tease a 3.5 dog to 10 in football -- which gives me a huge advantage -- then why can I only tease a 3.5 dog to 8.5 for the same juice in a basketball game that's going to see a lot more scoring, and thus, automatically have a better chance of not being as sharp as a closing number?

9 of the 13 nba games tonight were within 5 points of the closing number.

All but one (NO/OKC) were within 7 points of the closer.

          Is teasing nba profitable ?

          Most think its not.

I don't see how it could be nearly as profitable as football teasers -- even though NBA lines tend to be very "sharp."

I'm not really seeing how picking a given day of results is relevant, t-wizz.

Stupid logic because it's a very small sample size. Week 7 NFL..pretty sure EVERY SINGLE side teased hit except Baltimore (against HOU).

Now here's the right answer - teasing NBA isn't profitable whilst NFL is.

Because of the differences in the distribution of the MOVs in the respective sports. Total points scored matter, but not as much as the defining characteristics of the sports themselves. Try graphing the MOVs for NBA and NFL from 1-13 on the same graph and it should be obvious that the data sets are not all that similar.
