They were already contenders with their great defense, but it is amazing to see the difference Kaepernick makes in this offense. Alex Smith controlled games, Kaepernick leads them.

I know it seems to early, but this guys intangibles are unmistakable. He reads the defense quick, his release is really quick, he throws a lazer, and he is a threat running the ball aswell.

Guy is the next big thing.

He's still really green. His accuracy needs work, that's his only real weakness. How he handles the game when the 9rs behind will be very telling as to how far along he is. I thought coming out the preseason that he was the superior choice to Alex Smith, who really adds nothing to a team with lots of receiving threats. To be fair, though, Smith is winning now - hard to replace that. I still think Smith is a weak starter. I'm cheering for Colin no doubt - he's an exciting player with freakish physical gifts.

I think with a good coaching system around you, most decent QBs can succeede, which is the case with Alex Smith. I think Kaepernick makes the team a more rounded team, not just a defensive threat.

He has potential, but he is missing something. Maybe his arm is not as strong because his biceps indicate a cannon but all I see are floaters and wobbly darts. Could be techique or footwork issues too. At Nevada he was a skinny kid who was fast and threw like a girl.
