Houston Texans
FS Daniel Manning the defensive backfield captain and signal caller broke his leg on Sunday, leaving the backfield in need of a complete overhaul. With backup Dominique Barber already out, 3rd year reserve Troy Nolan will take over. Rookie Shiloh Keo becomes the primary backup and he lacks experience and discipline. They are paper thin in the secondary at this point. This weeks opponent Jacksonville may not be able to exploit a revamped secondary but keep an eye on this moving to week 9.
That base 3/4 of the Texans is looking tougher every week. They sure are changing their image on defence. That kid filling in for Mario Willaims, is playing well. He is a high motor guy and really is taking the outside cut off the opponents rushing game.
Seattle Seahawks
CB Walter Thurmond is gone for the year, the second starting CB to go down in two weeks. The CB position is now a mess with Cincinnati coming to town. Strong safety Kam Chancellor had to leave the game late with a badly bruised knee. With Seattle a real good run stuffing team look for Cinci to game plan some toward the passing game. They have had an extra week to work off a silent count in preparation for the zoo-like atmosphere in Seattle. I am keeping an eye toward the over 37.5 in that one. With both teams adept a stuffing the run I think the passing game will be more prominent on both sides of the ball. Less ball control means less clock and more scoring.
QB Tavaris Jackson will be back. He could have gone yesterday but they gave Whitehurst the benefit of the doubt. As a quarterback I think Charlie could make a real good impression. On a Pop Warner team. That no-huddle deal that the Hawks run needs a guy who can move around in the pocket and not lose his cool. Jackson's return to that offense will mean another 6-8 first downs for sure. That low total is looking better as I type. People are gonna remember Sunday's snore fest. It will not be so this coming week.
