    The SEA/NO game
I didn't have a wager here, but I'm looking at the box score and wondering....

When Seattle was down 18 with 5 minutes left, why in the hell were they kicking a 20-yard field goal instead of going for the TD? Afraid you'd score and make it 11, eh Carroll? Remember, the line was either 11 or 12, depending on where you got it....instead, they kick the FG and lose by 15.

wow you are DUMB. its a 2 score game whether you are down 15 or 11. better shot at getting a 20-yd field goal and making it 2 score than a TD and still having to get 2 scores. learn your football before coming up with retarded conspiracy theories

I understand that they needed three scores, but there was only 5 minutes left in the game.

What were they going to do -- score, recover an on-side kick, score, recover another on-side kick, then score again?

NFL coaches are too scared to make a smart decision so they go for the more likely 3 points instead of taking a chance and actually having some chance at winning football games.

It was from the 3-yard line, too.

          Get some balls, Carroll.

no, you kick the field goal so you are down 15. then you stop them and get the ball back with 3 minutes left and score, 8 pt game. onside kick, score, 2pt conversion.

you always, ALWAYS take the field goal and make the game a 2 score game when you can. 5 minutes is plenty of time for 2 scores

not from the 3 yard line, that is scared football and has very little chance of winning if any

Not if you're Seattle and you're down 18 playing the Saints on the road it's not.

I'd love to see the list of 18-point comebacks in the final 5 minutes of a game in NFL history.

Why is being down 15 so much worse than being down 11 with 5 pts left. still a 2 score game, and if you don't punch it in from 3 yards out, then the game really is over.

The point is, the game was over anyway.

I wouldn't think twice about it if there was, say, 10 minutes left.

The field goal was the right decision.

I had New Orleans in a teaser so I'm not complaining, but I couldn't believe they kicked the field goal there. They needed two touchdowns and a field goal. From the three yard line you might as well go for the touchdown and then you still have the option of kicking a field goal if you're 4th and 10 at the 25 on the next drive.
