I really am sorry to say this, but you are absolutely right. I know this guy is easy to blame, but my general rule is that it is uncool to blame a capper if you lose money trailing them.
In my opinion, there are two kinds of handicappers. There are those who handicap sports, taking the time to study players and trends and statistics, and there are the rest of us who handicap the handicappers themselves, only studying win/loss records. I work a lot too, plus I am a full-time student, so I don't know the intricate details of most sports teams, but I do love watching games when I can and putting a little money on them makes it even more fun. I might not find time to look into how a certain quarterback throws in night games on the road with medium wind to the east, but I can take the time to look at forums like this and follow cappers who do their homework and post good plays. The homework is minimal, and once you figure out who you can trust you even start to get a feel for what they are good at handicapping. For instance, I followed masterl from CM on the under, and i faded sammy on the packers. It was tempting to fade him on the under, but you have to be a mentally handicapped handicapper to bet the spread on a favorite and the under at the same time. That is bush league.
Also, if you are not a serious handicapper you should make bets that are such a small portion of your income that you will not be seriously upset when you lose. I am a student in debt, so my unit is one dollar. When I lose a big bet, i try to skip a fast food meal. You aren't going to get rich betting sports, so do it to have fun unless you want to spend hours you don't have studying (and even then you will probably end up around 50%)
Every now and then you will find an incredible fade, but just as skilled cappers have losing streaks, megafades have winning streaks. Be very picky and remember: nobody but you hits the "place your bet" button.
