Quarterback Aaron Rodgers intends to play for the Jets in the 2023 season, the Packers passer said on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Wednesday. The four-time MVP also said the hold-up is that the Packers are “digging their heels” in on trade compensation.

Here’s what you need to know:

The Jets and Rodgers spoke with each other in early March.

Rodgers, 39, finished his 18th season with the Packers in 2022. Green Bay went 8-9 and missed the postseason for the first time since 2018. He added in the interview that he knows the Packers want to move on, and he also wants to move on.

The Jets hired former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett as their offensive coordinator in January. Hackett coached Rodgers in his most recent MVP seasons.

If he's serious about winning he'll take 30-40 million instead of 60. If he takes the full 60, I hope he fails miserably.

Exactly. You don't just forgive 20 million to win. He has already won the super bowl. Shelf life of an NFL player is short, you take all the money you can get. He'd be an idiot not to take the money.

Yeah? And what's the difference in your life if your net worth is 300 million or 320 million let's say? That's the problem with America. Pure greed.

Tom Brady has taken measely contracts for years. You think he'd have 7 rings and be considered the undisputed GOAT if he never took those pay cuts? They changed the trajectory of his narrative, and now he'll be considered the best football player ever long after he's gone from this year. And all his money? That's going to stay behind too, because he'll never spend even 1/4 of what he made.

Rodgers could play for the minimum and he wouldn't come close to winning a title with the Jets and he has to know that.

That's a good point but still if you were a good person and wanted help with good causes and change peoples lives 20 million could go a long way other then winning in football.. Just saying!

I'm worth a few million here and there but no where close to 300 million. Just saying. You only need so much money to live comfortably and chill in your life time.

You don't need 320 million dollars to help people, you can help people making 50 grand a year. Rodgers is just greedy bro, same as every other American. There's some ppl who are blessed enough to be in his position where they'll never have to worry about money -- and yet, they just keep going after more and more money. It's quite pitiful. Because one day, they'll be on their death bed, just like the rest of us, and no money in the world is going to change that. The guy doesn't even have kids, and doesn't even give money to his parents or family. So if he doesn't take a pay cut, that means he's not playing football for the love of the game or to win, he's playing just as a job.

And that says everything you need to know about his legacy. There's a reason why Brady's funeral will be attendent by so many people. He will give you the shirt off his back in order to win together, as a team. Rodgers won't do that.

I don't make a millions of dollars and I volunteer with sick patients once a week. If you believe in the afterlife, just to remind you, there ain't no currency up there. None of your money transfers into the next life. You're judged on your actions and deeds not by your wealth or accomplishments.
