First rumbles of McNabb-to-Raiders trade terms emerge
Posted by Mike Florio on March 25, 2010 6:37 PM ET
Every once in a while, we develop a tipster who builds a track record of providing Tips that end up being true.

And one of our latest tipsters who has been accurate with past tips (for the most part) has now given us a tip regarding the trade terms that possibly would send Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Raiders.

Per the tip -- uncorroborated but nevertheless intriguing -- McNabb and cornerback Asante Samuel would go to Oakland, and cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha would go to Philadelphia.

We don't know whether an offer of this nature has been made. We suspect that the Eagles would, at a minimum, want to replace Samuel with Sheldon Brown.

Anyway, stay tuned. This is all uncorroborated, but we know that our friends in Philly are desperate for information, and that our friends in Oakland are desperate for hope.

i'm sure mcnabb will play with the eagles next season, there's no way mcnabb will resign/renegotiate his contract with the raiders, he wants to go to a playoff caliber team, if favre dont return i bet the vikings will be pretty happy to send their 1st round for mcnabb to the eagles, and mcnabb sign a 2/3 year deal with them

Donovan McNabb has plenty of say about where he will play in 2010 because of his contract, but his top choice as a trade destination looks like a non-starter.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that McNabb's preference would be to be traded to Minnesota if he can't remain an Eagle. A certain number four, however, has first dibs before number five. And we wonder if the Eagles would really want to help another NFC contender anyhow.

This news puts an interesting spin on Brett Favre's annual retirement dance. If he shocked everyone and decided not to quit, the Vikings could have another win-now option in their back pocket.

We just doubt the Eagles can wait that long to make a decision about their quarterback situation.

The same Inquirer report indicates McNabb has reservations about playing for a losing team and that talks with the Rams "lost momentum" for the time being.

The McNabb speculation, on the other hand, shows no signs of slowing down. It's like the Jay Cutler story from last year, yet somehow less annoying.

This would be hilarious if the Vikings used this trade rumor to turn the screws on Favre.

McNabb is a loser. He must know that he is not wanted in Philly by the team's owners and many of it's players. It is time to move on and end your career someplace else. You had many shots at winning a ring, and he blew every single one of them. A very over-rated QB.

Overrated QB, but I'd love to see Oakland pick him up. They need to turn the corner and get someone else in besides that shitbag Russell.

This would be a surprisingly good move if AL can put this together.

Not a Raiders fan, but I live in the Bay Area. I wouldn't mind watching these two every Sunday, compared with the shit they've had on the field the past few seasons.

McNabb's response to the controversy regarding possible trades involving Oakland/Buffalo/St Louis has typified the attitude that Philadelphia fans are sick of.

By saying "If I go, I want to go to the (super bowl contender) Vikings, not a team that sucks." he has again abdicated the responsibility of the QB to stay steady through thick and thin and put the team on his shoulders. Instead, he could have delivered a stock "I plan on spending the rest of my career in Philly, we have a great organization here but I guess we'll see what happens" or "I know I can succeed wherever I end up." Matthew Stafford showed more maturity than this when drafted by Detroit!

This is the opposite mentality of guys like Emmitt Smith or Brett Favre who in their twilight years with the team they'll always be known for playing with, chose to play on a lesser team rather than hang it up or play back-up. Even Jimmy Rollins of the Philadelphia Phillies has come out and said that if someday a young guy surpasses him he'd rather be a starter elsewhere because that's just his mindset.

I suppose it's easier if you have a championship, of course.
Walter forgot... when you're desperate's when you got no choice.

I bet the Eagles are licking their chops and trying to get a steal on this one...cause it's the Raiders. They are probably offering deals they would be too ashamed to even try if it was another team...Do not trade Nnamdi, Oakland!

                                I agree.

I keep rolling it around in my head, what McNabb is worth. Without a contract, he shouldn't be worth more than a late 2nd or early 3rd rounder. If I was a GM, I'd try to start from there and add some conditional picks based on games played.

Then again, the way that AL drafts, they might as well just ship their first rounder for McNabb.

as one of the few birds fans that actually supports keeping McNabb, I would love to see a deal with the Raiders. Asomugha has been critical of the organization before, and I'm hoping this twisted Al's panties enough to think this would be actually a good deal.

That is so typical McNabb. He thinks he is the greatest, but in fact, he is nothing but an old QB who has failed in his attemtp to get a ring, despite having the talent around him to do so. I mean, how many QB's do you know that have played in the Superbowl puked on the field? McChoke is a fraud.

I am an avid NFL fan and an Eagles season ticket holder for my entire life. Donovan Mcnabb is easily one of the most overrated players of the last decade. Every year is identical, if he stays healthy. He plays well in the regular season against the teams he is supposed to play well against. He plays like crap against the good teams. The Eagles somehow find their way into the playoffs, then either get terribly outplayed or terribly outcoached. Then the next season is exactly the same.

And as much as I want to blame Mcnabb for all of it, Big Andy obviously needs to take some blame. He puts together such a solid team each year, but he can never win the big game. I trluy hope Mcnabb goes and the Kevin Kolb era gets a chance, but there are many other glaring holes that need to be filled beyond QB.

The Raiders can have McNabb for their 2nd round pick. That is within the Top 42 picks of the draft. That is still more than he is worth, but considering that big fat slob who is now the Raiders QB, and that senile nut case who runs the Raiders draft, the Raiders can't hurt themselves.
