Cardinals inch closer to Warner deal
The Cardinals and the agent for Kurt Warnerappear to be creeping toward agreement on a new contract, but there remains significant ground to cover before free agency starts on Friday.

General Manager Rod Graves and Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein, spoke several times at the NFL Scouting Combine in the past few days, and it appears the gap between their points of view have narrowed, at least a little.

Bartelstein is believed to be asking for a deal that put Warner among the top five highest paid quarterbacks in the league, an average of $12 million to $16 million or so.
    Good news for football bettors.

    Poor Leinart.

Looking not so good for Cards now. They offer 20 million for next two years. He wants 29 million. So he's checking out the 49-ers. Like they have Fitz and Boldin.

With this economy I think he should take the 20 million, 'thank his Lord and Savior', and shut the f*ck up.

Can't blame him. He's been working for cheap much of his career. He finally has a chance at a big payday.

Warner, a few weeks ago, referring to the Cardinals:

"My mind-set is that if I'm going to play, I don't want it to be anywhere else."
The guy is 38 years old. Great fit with Cards, but would have to start from scratch elsewhere. He's obviously a whole lot less interested in other teams than his agent...

Kurt Warner reportedly spent Sunday night trying to decide whether to make the trip to San Francisco Monday morning.
According to ESPN's John Clayton, "all signs point to him accepting the invitation to visit the 49ers." The fact that Warner was still struggling with the decision to even make the trip last night, however, speaks to the ongoing disconnect between him and his agent. Mar. 2 - 9:26 am et

I wouldn't have thought Warner could walk away from the Cards esp offering him that kind of dough.

Maybe the Cardinals should've just tagged him if he was going to be such a baby about things.

My guess is that Warner will come back to the Cards when he realizes he's got the best QB job in the NFL.

You didn't give him much credit.

              ---

Ken Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that Kurt Waner's agent Mark Bartelstein made another contract proposal to the Cardinals on Tuesday. The 2-year, $23 million proposal includes $12 million in guarantees and is less than what the 49ers were offering, Bartelstein said.

Warner also instructed Bartelstein to tell the Cardinals that he would give up $1 million in each year of the deal if the team re-signed receiver Anquan Boldin.

I hope the Cards play hard ball and Warner ends up going to the 49ers. It's time for Leinhart to man up anyway. Justice would be served all around.

Leinhart pisses me off...I hope he amounts to nothing.

You would be pretty annoyed if you walked around USC and saw life size cut outs of this douche all over campus like he was the second coming of Joe Montana or something.

lol. I'm as far away from the Leinhart hype as possible here in Wisconsin. Even so, I hear too much about his frat boy antics.

That's why I want him thrown to the wolves. If he wants to be a celebrity, at least make him earn it.

Besides, if Matt Cassell can do what he did with the Pats last season, there's no reason why Leinhart can't do it with Fitzgerald, Boldin, Breastin, etc. The Cards don't need Warner.

                      Warner Resolution Expected Today

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports the agent for Kurt Warner and Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves negotiated into the night on Tuesday and a resolution likely will come today.

"We talked about things conceptually," said agent Mark Bartelstein. "I think we're going to hear something from them today, and then Kurt has to make a decision."
