    Totally New to Sports Betting
Hi. I'm really a noob when it comes to sports betting. I registered on this forum to learn the basic.

What are the top basic things I need to learn or do before I can start playing?

I would really, really, appreciate your feedback.

    Thanks, mucho.

Decide on how much your okay with losing....basically expect your first few deposits to be gone while your learning.

Set realistic goals when starting out.

Choose a reputable sportsbook. Reduced juice in general is > bonuses. Reduced juice will allow you to stretch your bankroll farther over the long term.

Money management is key. Learn about money management and stick to it. Use the search function here to look for it and also google.

Learn to handicap your own games. Avoid tailing someone until you have a firm grasp on all the different methods people use to handicap.

Focus on a learning about one thing atta time ...example...chase systems, flat betting, martingale, touts, reverse line movement, beating the closing line, hamburgers, public plays, fading the public, line services, trends. That's just to name a few things off the top of my head but the list is overwhelming so take it small and read up on one topic your interested in and don't overdo it.

Generally stick to what you know when starting out....if you know baseball focus on that only, if you know women's soccer then that should be what you live. Maybe you know a specific division or conference really well....stay there and become an expert.

Don't give up if you find yourself picking losers....keep detailed records and go back and try and find out why the play lost or ask for help/answer right here on SBR!

    Good luck in your endeavors

      Welcome, kittybench!

Good way to start is by just making wagers with SBR Points in the SBR Sportsbook. You'll get the sense of the lines listed for games, how the juice works on both sides, and such.

You might want to focus on one sport initially and then branch out from there. For example, basketball lines involve the pointspread while baseball lines are centered around money line odds.

After you get comfortable, you can then make a small deposit at one of our top-rated sportsbooks and play with real funds. Most books take low wagers online - even $5 or less on a game.

Good luck and stay in touch with us!

The money that I will use in wagers, is it from CC or I can use my funds in Paypal?

          Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

Funny how people keep on recommending "choosing A good book"...why not playing on all books available and always picking best odds available? everything else is wasting money

Unfortunately not all books pay out when it comes time to although they're more than happy to accept your deposits.

Very quickly you will find that winning $xxxx in one day is fun but losing the same amount is twice as painful. It is weird but some sort of brain phenomenon.

Size your wagers with this in mind.

Don't start. you will lose money perhaps breakout even at best and spend countless hours in front of a computer trying to find an edge. Well now that I've said that to make myself feel better once you choose a good sportsbookie stay away from the Casino and perhaps the poker rooms as well for a while. Start by wagering on 1-2 games a day to get your feet wet. It is not uncommon to lose your first deposit in a short period of time. I wouldn't suggest depositing more than $100 maybe $200 if your saying $100 is not good enough. And practice bankroll management. when first starting u can risk about 10% of your bankroll because ur bankroll is so small. But if you decide to deposit 1k+ don't do what people here do and bet half your bankroll on a single bet.

Don't listen or follow 98.5% of the people on here when you see threads like "lock of the year, game of the year," etc. Most guys on here are lifetime degenerate losers who make threads for attention, of which they do not get in their real lives. Use your own instinct. Know the sports in which you are wagering. Don't wager on sports you don't know following the advice of someone else.

stay with sports that have a large sample size, stay away from nfl, market is too efficient, understand +ev, z-scores
mean, propbability and statistics, no vig line,.......read books like "conquering risk," "sharp sports betting", contrarian thought.......public likes overs and favorites, ........study line history.....it's free.......use proper money management
there is a difference between a "gamble" and a "calculated risk"....you can gind out profits, if you use your head,

do not use progressive staking, use flat staking ( betting).....there is absolutely no logic
that one game is worth more than another.......set a realistic goal per week say 200.00
on 50.00 bets, ....it is too difficult to win 300.00,...."when you are a winner, go to dinner"
learn how to cut your losses when you lose, you are not playing with the books money when you are winning, you are playing with Your money, pay bills with your winnings...been doing this for 40 years,........it works
