kstate wanted to win the game outright, they werent concerned about the spread. It was such a close game they wanted to win. Spread didnt even enter those kids minds. "Kansas state didn't want to cover" as you put it is reserved for games where a team is getting blown out and know theyre going to lose and that team phones it in down the stretch.
