400♦ NEW MEXICO - Steve Alford may hate playing in this venue each season, but he's going to love it tonight. The Lobos have been a freak of nature in The Pit, their own arena, but it's blowouts like those that will have them playing with confidence against an outmatched Wyoming team.
The Lobos enter the postseason after winning a share of the regular-season conference crown, while securing the No. 3 seed in the league tournament. The Cowboys enter the event as the sixth seed after posting an 18-12 mark overall and 7-9 record in the Mountain West play; on the flipside, New Mexico is 21-10 overall and was 12-4 in league play.
I've enjoyed watching the balanced attack of this team, as it boasts four players scoring in double-figures this season, for a total of 48.5 points per game. And while I know the Cowboys were one of the more impressive mid-pack teams, I don't think they will handle the Lobos as good as they did in Laramie.
Lay the chalk with Alford's boys, who happened to be my darkhorse to win the tourney crown.
