The thing about the Lakers' defense is that it revolves entirely around dominating the paint with their three big men, which forces shots to the outer perimeter where they have very capable one-on-one defenders in Kobe/Artest/Barnes available. This is being disrupted by Gasol being forced to guard Dirk at all different ranges and aggressive play from Tyson Chandler in the paint where Bynum all of a sudden has someone just as big and strong as he is in his face the entire game. With that interior defense being contested on every Mavs possession, Barea/Terry can cut into the paint with ease and drive to the hoop (I saw Barea do it twice in a row tonight within a 45 second window, completely uncontested). When Kidd is running the point you see the Mavs half-court sets working flawlessly and a lot of open looks earned by making the extra pass. When facing the Lakers bench, the matchup is no contest. It's dedication to the gameplan and unselfish play. So it's really not that the Laker defense is failing to execute the gameplan. It's just that the Mavs offensive strategy is tailored to attacking the Lakers defensive system.

So with that in mind, I really don't expect the Lakers to stop the Mavs from scoring 95+ points at home. The only way the Lakers are going to beat the Mavs in Dallas is by dominating the paint, Kobe and at least one other player (Artest or Odom) having a big night from 18ft+, and pressing for in-transition points from steals & defensive stops from Artest/Barnes/Brown/Kobe. I think all of these things will happen in Games 3/4, and they all lend themselves to increased pace and more FTs as the Dallas defense tries to clamp down on the offensive surges from the Lakers. I would call it a 195-200 total in Dallas.
