Overreaction to the "The NBA wants Game 7's" Theory
I keep reading that the team down 3-2 (such as the mavs) are going to win game 6 because the nba wants game 7's. Last year, there were a total of 4 series (out of 15) that went the distance, two of which were in the first round. I think we are reading a little bit too much into this theory. If the nba gives Dallas favorable calls to force a game 7, they will seriously be compromising this series as Dallas will have regained all the momentum and have homecourt for the final game. Why would the nba do them this favor? Similarly with Phoenix and portland, why would the nba do portland this favor? The series has gone long enough, there's simply no need for a game 7.

The only case that makes sense is the Lakers-Thunder series. Putting Durant on the big stage in a game 7 up against kobe and the lakers would be huge so i can definitely see this.

Remember guys, it's only the first round. There's going to be even more competitive series as we go on so i think this whole notion of the nba forcing game 7's is a bit of a reach. That said, I like the spurs to close out dallas, phoenix to beat the blazers, utah to close out denver at home, and the thunder to give the lakers a hell of a game and possibly win game 6 (only to lose in game 7). Good luck to all

    Doing some more research...

    There were 3 Game 7s in 2008, 1 in 2007, 4 in 2006, and 4 in 2005.

That's an average of about 3 Game 7s per year. Five of this year's first round series could potentially reach a game 7. I'm going to say that no more than 2 will actually go the distance.

Interesting.... yeah, I believe Spurs will move on to and it seems like the NBA should be trying to get these games to move in if they are fixing them anyway. NBA season goes on way too long as it is... they're going the way of the mlb!

Naturally, the NBA wants game 7's. It creates more drama and revenue. The theory isn't wrong but the thought that a game 7 might happen because the NBA wants it is wrong. The players are not in on it, nor is the coaches and they have a huge say so when the series is decided by there actions. The refs have orders to carry out to aid what they want but sometimes it's useless if the othere team is incompetent..i.e. Bobcats.. the NBA tried to get them a win or 2 at home and hosed the majic repeatedly and kept Dwight Howard in foul trouble on tick tack fouls all day, but in the end the Majic was way too good for the Bobcats.

It's hard for a ref to blatently rig a game and you most likely won't see that, but it is the little things that go on. Sometimes you can tell the refs are just looking for some stuff to call on one team and that team always gets the short end of questionable/close calls. In the NBA a ref technically could call a foul almost 90% of the time if a player drives to the basket, but they do sometimes and other times you see bodies flying and nothing is called.

But, I agree with your point. The game 7's rather they are wanted or not are not that common. Tonites game most likely will be called to the best of the refs ability because it would give the huge advantage to the Mavs if a game 7 was forced because the NBA had an agenda. Hopefully that doesn't happen tonite

mark cuban isn't in good terms with david SPERM, so i don't really think dallas will be favored much tonight to force a game 7

I agree Lyon... i think you explained it a little better than i did. Don't get me wrong anyone, certainly i agree that the nba wants to extend series. Ultimately however, the games are mostly decided by the players and coaches.

your right. They didn't send that ref that Dallas is 2-16 S/U in playoff games though. I guees that would be too obvious I forget his name at the moment, but if I seen it I know it.

Yea, the J. Crawford ref has a loose screw.. you can just tell. Duncan, is one of the classier guys in the NBA yet Crawford hates him... Thanks for reminding me of that it helped me think of the ref that Dallas was 2-16 S/U in playoffs. His name is Danny Crawford. He is a black guy short/skinny probably in his 50's

I know Joey Crawford personally. He doesn't have a screw loose but he certainly doesn't take any shit from anyone and doesn't put up with any of the nonsense that goes on during games.

I completely agree that the "fix is in" argument is overblown. Refs certainly can influence games to a certain degree, but I'm not sure I believe in all these hidden agendas and that a games outcome is chosen before the tip.

Lyon thats the funniest thing I seen sports related in a while. That referee is a complete idiot, Duncan was just having a laugh obviously at the ref but ref can't just assume that Duncan is laughing at him even though he is. Duncan laughing antics were funny as ****k too.

Only one game 7 out of a possible five. Just a reminder to not simply make a play based on the nba wanting game 7s.
