Nice job. I missed this one. For some reason, I forgot to check the board for Turkish basketball over/unders today.
How do you feel about this new venture? Do you think it'll be profitable?

          Club,

I think so long as I don't attempt to play too many of these Euro games and "spot play" if you will - then there should be a decent shot to profit. I think some of the lines for these games are a bit soft because they don't get heavy action. The game today is a good case in point, even though there was just one game to base the "form" of these teams on - both teams held their last opponents to point totals lower than what they scored in their 2nd games and neither offense impressed (138 points total between these two in their first game) against so-so defenses based on what the stats showed. Won't always hold up, but this one to me seemed to be about 6-10 points off & worth the shot.

            TUESDAY, OCT.27: 3PM ET
SPAIN ACB: KALISE GRAN CANARIA -4.5 (-110)
Through three games, Gran Canaria's opponents today, CB Estudiantes, are having some major issues stopping their opponents. Estudiantes are 0-3 this season, yielding 83 ppg. They have scored 65 ppg offensively and have lost by 21 points twice & 12 points in their other game. Gran Canaria meanwhile have been able to stop teams, limited foes to 67 ppg while posting a 1-2 record. Offensively, the numbers don't dazzle with 67 points twice and 61 in the other game. However, looking at their stats, it appears they play a slower tempo as 9 of the 10 players on their roster are shooting over 50% from the floor. The two teams have a common opponent in DKV Juventut whome Canaria narrowly lost to by 2 points while Estudiantes got blown out by 21, surrendering 85 points to a team that has scored 69, 65 & 59 points in its other three games. The losses for Estudiantes are to a couple of 3-1 teams and a 1-3 team (21 point loss). Gran Canaria's win came against Regal Barcelona who are 3-1 and have whipped every other team they have played. Canaria may not explode for a total in the 80s, but this one shapes up to where they should be able to get into the 70s for the first time and if their defense continues as solidly as it played in the first three, they should limit Estudiantes enough to win & cover this spread.

                WEDNESDAY, OCT.28: 3:45PM et
EUROLEAGUE: Unicaja vs. Olympiakos OVER 152.5 (-115)
Unicaja beat out Partizan 72-64 in their Euro opener while Olympiakos blitzed
Entente Orleanaise 94-72. Unicaja has been a steady scoring outfit in the Spanish ACB league, averaging almost 75 ppg. Their game totals have been at 150 or better in 3 of 4 league contests. The Greeks have just one game played in their domestic season, an 85-78 win. Expect the Greeks to continue to push the tempo and they have plenty of perimeter players who can fill it up. Unicaja has shown the ability to stick with squads in their domestic league, so the feeling here is that both teams should eclipse 70 and Olympiakos if they bring their quality to this one, can easily get into the 80s.

                    EUROLEAGUE: Panathinaikos vs.Khimki Moscow OVER 146.5 (-115)
The Greeks scored 75 in their Euro opener and hit the start of their domestic league with 83 points. Khimki surprised Real Madrid with an 83-81 OT win in their Euro opener, scoring 72 in regulation. In two Russian league games, they averaged 74 ppg and gave up 70.5 ppg. On the road, it would be a bit unrealistic to expect them to stick with the Greeks after winning at home vs. Spanish-side Real. The Greeks will looks to make a strong opening statement at home in defense of their Euroleague title, so I think a game in the mid 70s or better by the Greeks will suffice to getting this done.

TURKEY TBL: Turk Telekom vs. Efes Pilsen UNDER 156.5 (-115)
Both teams had a common foe in Mersin, one of the poorest defensive teams so far through just 3 games. Both teams put up 90+ points against that squad, but then had a much lower output in their 2nd game. Telekom scored just 62 against Antlaya & Pilsen scored 71 scored against Banvit. Both have been fairly solid on defense, Pilsen yielding just 64 ppg. Telekom, 72.5 ppg. Pilsen looks better defensively and both can score points, but this total might be a bit high based on the early action in this league for both. I think if Pilsen digs in on D, this might stay under.

Also going to add any NBA plays I make to this thread so as to not clutter up the forum with lame ass picks. I mostly play 2nd halves in the NBA with a few "whole" games when the mood strikes. Fading is probably a great option. Will likely have a few tonight. F-A-D-E to get paid.

Mavs defense is being undervalued it appears this season, while their offense remains iffy right now (under 40% for the season). There were a ton of shots in the 1st half (92), but very few makes obviously. Both COULD light it up - especially Utah, but I'll side with defense as the Mavs have just 4 quarters of more than 50 combined points in 14 quarters this season and continue to struggle to find their shots so far. Lots of jumpers here with only 11 FTs between the two teams in the 1st half.

Apparently Utah decided not to play in the 4th quarter (44-18 Dallas). Wowza. Dallas almost scores as many points in the 4th as they did the entire game.

EUROLEAGUE: Olympiakos vs. Lietuvos Rytas OVER 154.5 (-115)
Greek sides are very much different home vs. road in Euroleague play. Olympiakos torched Orleanaise for 94 points in their Euro opener at home and then laid an egg with 68 points as Unicaja crushed them 86-68. The Greeks are averaging 85.5 points in two games in their domestic league, yielding 77.5 ppg. Rytas has outclassed their competition in Lithuania scoring 80 or more points in all four games, including a couple well over 100. In Euroleague play, the Lithuainians haven't exactly lit up the scoreboard with 77 & 69 points. Both however were against far less accomplished squads in Orleanaise & Efes Pilsen that won't push the envelope like Olympiakos. Orleanaise was the squad that got dumped by the Greeks, 94-72 at Olympiakos. Rytas looks like they can get into the 70s as they do push the tempo. Their 69 point game was marred by a poor quarter where they scored single digits after putting up 20+ in the other three quarters. If Rytas can hit 70, the Greeks would be left to get 85 to finish this off ... with them at home & needing to rebound from their dreadful road game, look for the Greeks to explode.

Early in the NBA, I stick mainly to 2nd half plays - sometimes first half or full games ... but I usually have trouble gauging full games early. There aren't any good props at my current book during the regular season games like the ones offered last post-season, so none of those yet. I'll be full speed into college hoops when it starts as that is probably my favorite sport to bet and I think I am half way decent at it ... the sooner it starts, the less money I lose on football!

The NFL has buried me this year too....it's too enjoyable of a day to bet on anyway with Fantasy etc.

The NBA and College Hoops is my haven and I look forward to sharing picks and insight with you soon.

                                                      11.4.09: [2nd Half] Pistons/Raptors OVER 96.5 (-110)
Ton of FTs in the 1st half here and fantastic shooting by both. Both had good FG% defense coming in, but Toronto keeps playing the up-tempo pace which should yield more break opps & perhaps some lazy fouls. I'll bite after a 124 point 1st half.

Two giving defenses and the fact that the game is close (1 pt.) should help out hopefully. Atlanta may have some tired legs late as well after playing a close one in Portland yesterday. More FT attempts would really help out here. ATL has just 5. SAC has 13.

This is the marquee match-up of the day in the Euroleague & hopefully it delivers. Madrid is hitting on all cylinders right now with a 5-0 record in Spain and combing off a 94-72 win in the Euroleague last time out to correct their 3 point overtime loss to Khimki. Madrid averages just over 79 ppg in Spain and has only given up over 70 points twice. One of those results was a narrow 81-79 win over fellow Spanish Euroleague entrant, Unicaja. Panathinaikos meanwhile has averaged 83.5 ppg in Greece in just two games, following that with 101 points at home in a 35 point win last time vs. Khimki and they hit for 75 on the road in a win against A.J. Milano in their Euro opener. This is a showdown for the top of the table in Group D where Panathinaikos hopes to maintain it's perfect record, while Madrid needs a win to join Khimki at 2-1. Greek sides don't always travel well in this competition, but this Panathinaikos squad are the defending Euro champs and should see this as an opportunity to take full control of this group. Should be plenty of running & gunning here I hope with both teams well equipped to score into the 70s each and certainly either side could eclipse 80 if their shots are falling.
