Its mindblowing how you see these morons on tv and sports writers talking about what a huge pickup houston made with smith. Its like they forgot how much of a buffoon this guy has been over his career. I just dont get it

Touting this guy as a productive pickup is truly the definition of insanity.
Doesn't surprise me that a bunch of media hacks look at his surface stats and think he's a solid player, though.
The guy is a one-man franchise noose.

Love to see him play on a team with Kobe, Melo, Gay, Howard. Espn would call it a dream team for the ages. I would call it a comedy festival.

Idk Mag I think Rondo be hilarious from a personality standpoint but he passes too much and too unselfish. How bout Brandon Jennings if we add a #1? There a winner

Jennings would be good, BUT , nobody "passes" the ball to a ref's "head" like Rondo. LOL. How many games did he get kicked out for doing that, MORE than once I might add. LOL.

I think Smith gets bashed too much, when he's clicking he's a good ball player, he just needs to stick to what he does best and not take too many jump shots. He's on a winning team now with an old friend in Howard, different focus now, he'll buy in Id imagine and be that guy who does more of the dirty work for Houston.

Considering Houston loves to take 3s and avoids mid-range this could be a bad sign for Smith. He'll be there statistically in the rebounds but I can see his points dropping significantly. Garbage buckets only I would imagine.

Yeah, good luck convincing him of that.

Smith sucks. I've been saying this for years.
He has some tools and could be good in the paint but he just jacks up three point shots all day.
He won't change.

He sucks, but he needs a real coach. Who have his coach's been? Woodson and Larry Drew lol? I think if he had a halfway decent coach they could help transform his game. Specifically not settling for long jumpshots.
And no, Kevin McHale is not a good coach.

You're pretty much correct.
I'm not saying he doesn't have talent. He does.
He sucks for a ton of other reasons. Bad attitude, not very smart, acts high half the time, etc.
I don't think a good coach will take him.
OKC barely beat the Pistons a few weeks ago by 2 points. At the end of the game our announcers were hoping out loud that Smith would shoot a three as time was running down.
Sure enough, he took a horrible shot from three point land, bricked it, and OKC won.

SVG's a pretty good coach and couldn't wait to get rid of him. He spent about 5 seconds trying to resurrect his career/attitude, but realized almost immediately he was a lost cause and tried to trade him from that point on.
Smith is being paid $26 million to stay away from Detroit. Think about that for a minute.

its one game, watch how many games he will lose for them by himself as time goes on. He was on his best behavior last night because it was new surroundings, he will get comfortable and then look out....chaos

The dude is a headcase but he's just asked to be a 3rd or 4th option on this team. You could argue he should have been the 3rd option on Detroit but he was in a way the most "proven" player on that team so no one was legitimate enough to tell him to stop acting like a number 1 option.
Now he is CLEARLY behind Harden and Howard in the pecking order. I think there's a chance he can contribute something in that situation.
Trying to make this sound like a huge acquisition is excessive though. He's a low risk guy that could end up being a nice piece - that's about it.

Agreed, Hawks fan here, and his days in ATL were miserable. I couldn't stand watching the guy. His basketball IQ is terrible, and he is one of the most selfish players I've ever set my eyes on. IMO the hawks were held back by him and Joe Johnson. Glad they are both gone

Lol. What a miserable thread. Wish I could have 6 minutes of my life back.
I will add this thread to the several that will be bumped when Houston makes it past the first round of the playoffs.

To Houston's credit they are not letting him play when late in gm. Had to scrap my Detroit 2h fade when they were leading at half plays. Been real ni$e last year +. And this boneheads bricks and turnovers down stretch in 4th were so valuable.
