    Sharp Action Monday's NBA Games
"Only two games on the Monday Night card here in the first week of NBA Playoff action. But, “Game Two” scenarios involve sharp positioning against the public’s tendency to bet the Game One straight up loser in Game Two. We’ve certainly seen some of that for this evening already…and are likely to do so the next couple of days as well.
Both Monday games are in the Western conference. We have a later than normal 8 p.m. ET and 10:30 p.m. ET doubleheader. Let’s take the games in the order of tipoff.
MEMPHIS AT OKLAHOMA CITY: The hosts opened at -7.5 off their impressive series opener Saturday Night. Oklahoma City actually won two blowouts in that game! They led by a whopping 25 points in the first half. After falling asleep in the third quarter, they then won the fourth quarter handily. The “textbook” play is to back the underdog in the bounce back spot. Sharps knew the much of the public would do that, and hit the Grizzlies on the opener. We’re now seeing Oklahoma City -7 in most stores.
Situations like this often create a “tug of war” from squares. Some just can’t help taking the favorite, even if they know they’re supposed to play the bounce back. Others go with tradition…which is one of the few situations in ALL of sports betting where squares will invest in underdogs. That creates an extra dynamic here, and likely will as well in Dallas/San Antonio, Charlotte/Miami, the other two matchups where the series and Game Two favorites won their openers.
No interest on the total, with the opener of 189.5 standing pat. A pass for the math guys.
GOLDEN STATE AT LA CLIPPERS: This is one of a startling FIVE matchups where the series and road underdog won Game One outright...setting up the favorite as the "bounce back” team. Squares LOVE situations like this because they have “permission” to bet on the favorite when that’s who they love taking anyway as a general rule. Oddsmakers know this, and try to guard against it. Sharps know this, and try to take early positions so they can exploit overreactions. In this game, an opener of LA Clippers -7 has been bet up to Clippers -8.
Sources tell us that sharps took position on the Clippers at -7 knowing that square money was coming, and will buy back on Golden State +8 to give themselves 1-0-1 potential if the game lands on either 7 or 8. If any given sharp prefers the Clippers, he’ll have more money on LAC -7. If any given sharp prefers Golden State, he’ll come back over the top for a larger bet on Golden State +8. This is why sharps make a living betting sports! They get the best numbers for their preferred sides, AND they make good money when other bettors are taking pushes.
We’ve had a move to the Over on the total, as an opener of 211 has been bet up to 212. The first game finished on 214 even with 38 turnovers and less than 50% shooting form both teams inside the arc. The math guys made it 212, and bet the opener."
