Betting strategy - AFL NAB CUP. Flat bet 1x every game, just take the points. (Weaker teams will put in more effort than strong teams). <s style="text-decoration: none; color: rgb(102, 181, 210); ">#</s>AFLComment -

#10690Scrub teams love the NAB cup and do well - as was said, maybe because the other guys aren't trying - but also because they actually have different rules (Supergoal anyone?) and coaches intentionally use the comp to test different line-ups, rather than just use the best team available. Hell, even the AFL itself uses the comp to test funky new rules changes pre-season.
No one gives a penetrate about winning the NAB cup, and from memory it's the kiss of death for winning the premiership.
Ultimately though, preseason anything has its own risks that you can chose to accept it or not. I don't penetrate with preseasons. (NRL guy for the record). My favourite is the first 5 weeks of season though, when teams are trying/stable but people/bookmakers haven't figured them out yet.Comment -

#10691For anyone thats interested, I'm flat betting all the underdogs in the Auckland Nines. The obvious reasoning being that its a new format, high variance and almost impossible to pick - so should be lots of value on the underdogs.Comment -

#10692OK I've found my first official play of the AFL (pre) season...
Fremantle v West Coast
NAB Cup
2* Freo -5.5 (-108/$1.92 Sportsbet)
I am loathe to bet on pre season matches, however I will make an exception for stand out cases (like Essendon +10.5 tonight) and now the Dockers laying less than a goal against their cross town rivals.Comment -

#10696That extra preseason for WC paid off clearly. Almost a 100pt loss for Freo. That's now 3 or 4 preseason defeats in a row for Freo by WC. Even Freo's coach took the day off - literally was in an "observer role" watching other staff have a crack for most of the game. But Freo just absolutely woeful in every aspect even for a muck around game. Managed to hedge out with a live bet (WC minus anything!).Comment -

#10697Yeah hedged out also @ eagles -32 saved the damage.
Eagles extra month of practice really showed. That is why the NAB challenge just practice Games and got to bet accordingly
Looking forward massive season Sando

First play of the season...
Charity Shield
South Sydney @ St George
Souths have a big and imposing forward pack, probably the best in the comp this season, up against a horrible St George forward pack, that is small and mobile but seriously lacking in talent (outside Merrin).
St George do have a nice back line, led by Dugan, but so do Souths, led by Inglis.
An underdog Souths at half strength just crushed a full strength St George in the Aukland 9's comp. in fact St George was the worst team at the Aukland 9's.
Souths have a tough start to the season, so would normally wonder how much effort they would put into this game, except for the fact that St George is a traditional and much disliked enemy, so they must be dealt with accordingly.
1.5* Souths -2 (-110/$1.90 Sportsbet)Comment -

#10709Great call on the Lions Sando they played brilliantly they could be one to keep an eye on at Ellis Park with a few points on their side.
I freaking took the under though tough loss at the end there, their kicker is a freak! Built like your typical South African, nails droppies and hasn't missed a place kick this season and not many were easy.Comment -
