I prefer it when he is out from a betting standpoint. When he is in he around +125 to win. Without him you get more open betting.

Agreed, this is not an age you should be coming into your golfing prime, Kenny Perry is defying odds. Steroids? nah, doubt it.

His world ranking is 39th at the moment, he'll be top 10 by the end of this season.

So young Rory hung on to win at Dubai today, his first pro victory. Amongst those he beat that finished in the top 10 were Justin Rose (world ranking #22) Paul Casey (#23), Henrik Stenson (#7), Robert Karlsson (#8), Miguel Jimenez (#21), and in 11th place was Sergio Garcia (currently #2 in the world rankings).

This kid is the real deal, can't wait to see how he performs in the majors this year.

Bob, normally I wouldn't respond while doing Swedish golfer analysis, but since Tiger's wife happens to be Swedish, I'll make an exception for you. I was curious myself as to his status so I checked his website, and he has left his next scheduled event as "to be announced" but it is widely believed he'll be ready for the Masters, and you'd have to believe he'll have at least one or two warm up tournaments before.

As someone who follows golf, I can understand why you'd make that statement about Tiger-less tournaments, but...there have certainly been some compelling stories since Tiger went down last June such as:

    - the re-emergence of Sergio Garcia, who seems to have hunkered down and taken his golf very seriously over the last 6 months or so to a new level, it's almost impossible to keep him out of the top 5 in any tournament he plays nowadays

    - Padraig Harrington winning the 2 majors after Tiger went down

    - Vijay Singh winning 2 of the 4 the FedEx cup tournaments and taking home the $10 million top prize playing through a bunch of nagging injuries

    - Watching Anthony Kim emerge as the U.S.'s latest golfing sensation.

    - If you don't recognize this name you will by the end of 2009, 19 year old Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland who plays on the European tour will be golf's next superstar. He is leading at the halfway point in the Dubai tournament this week, and he'll be playing in majors for the first time this year. His world ranking is 39th at the moment, he'll be top 10 by the end of this season.

    - and of course, there's the emergence of Sweden as the new mecca of the golf world. Aside from those guys playing in the U.S tour, there's also world no. 7 Henrik Stenson and world number 8 Robert Karlsson (both playing in Dubai this week). Isn't their summer like 3 weeks long up there? How the heck are they any good at this game?

Anyway Bob, bottom line is if you follow (and wager) golf with any regularity, especially if you follow the European tour as well, there's plenty of interesting stuff going on, even without Tiger, although I'm looking forward to his return as well.

FBR Open halfway mark Swedish report:

Well, we've lost 2 gentlemen to the cut as Daniel Chopra and Jesper Parnevik couldn't cut the mustard, no big shock considering their pre-tourny odds. No need to feel ashamed though, also missing the cut were Phil Mickelson, Anthony Kim, Mike Weir and other well known names. Surprise!

Super-Swede Carl Pettersson finds himself in mid-pack tied for 30th or so. Actually it was impressive considering his unfortunate start on Thursday's round where he was 3 over after 3 holes (he started his round on the back 9). Like a race horse standing at the gate and giving the other horses a 5 length head start, that's tough to come back from. The good news is Saturday is definitely Mr. Pettersson's "moving day", he's one of the best on tour at gaining position on Saturday (and then choking on Sunday) so expect him to be at or very near the top 10 by the end of Saturday's round.

Our Swedish round of the day goes to Fredrik Jacobson who fired a fine 6 under 65. He started his round on the back 9, and once the Swedish meatballs he had for brunch kicked in, he shot an amazing 6 birdies in a row in one stretch! Freddie finds himself just outside of the top 10 heading into the 3rd round, not a bad spot for a pre-tournament 175-1 shot, not a bad spot at all.

This concludes your Swedish golfers update at the FBR.

When in doubt go with the Swedes

    (odds from 5dimes)

    Carl Pettersson - 100-1
    Fredrik Jacobson - 150-1
    Jesper Parnevik - 150-1
    Daniel Chopra - 200-1

but get yourself a Betfair account somehow someway here are their latest odds there

    Carl Pettersson - 190-1
    Fredrik Jacobson - 170-1
    Jesper Parnevik - 540-1
    Daniel Chopra - 390-1

Petterson 190-1??? He must be hurting or something, that guy is waaaay too good to be listed at those odds.

Also, Dubai has a strong field this week (Sergio Garcia, Els, Stenson, etc...)

Decided against betting as Superbowl Sunday will be Day 4 and dont want to miss it

Thinking about that statement I just made makes me look deluded. Not picked a winner in over 10 years and I convince myself that my guy would be in the hunt Sunday?

    "Narrowed" it down to
    Ames 50-1
    Toms 35-1
    Johnson 37-1
    Stricker 50-1
    Perry 35-1
    Weir 27-1
