Jockey Calvin Borel, winner of three of the last four renewals of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and the regular rider of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, will be honored Nov. 13 as the recipient of the 2010 Warner L. Jones Jr. Horseman of the Year Award, which is presented annually by the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners. Borel will receive the award on during the KTO’s 22nd annual awards dinner, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at the Kentucky Derby Museum. Seating for this event remains available at $125 per ticket or $1,000 for a table of eight. Jones, Jr. Horseman of the Year Award since 1989 to a member of the racing industry who displays the spirit and passion for the sport exhibited by the late Warner L. Jones Jr., the famed Kentucky Thoroughbred breeder and owner, master of Hermitage Farm, and former chairman of the board of Churchill Downs. The 44-year-old Borel is nearing the conclusion of another tremendous year highlighted by a victory in Kentucky Derby 136 aboard WinStar Farm’s homebred Super Saver and duties in the saddle aboard Rachel Alexandra, whose 2010 successes before her retirement in September included wins in the Fleur De Lis (gr. III) at Churchill Downs, New Orleans Ladies at Fair Grounds, and Lady’s Secret at Monmouth Park.
