when they rest their real guys.

If Mozgov or Thompson is in there too long, risk injury.. to them.

If he signs with Bulls,a nd he just plays nasty and hard against Mozgov..
this signing avoids a possible injury to their starting Center for the Cavs

also, this is another VERY heavy man, that can wear down Gasol in the playoffs.
Gasol is older and is still great, but does not have the physical strength to
struggle for 3 hrs. against a heavier opponent

He will play 6-15 minutes a game. Nothing more. Not a bad pickup for what they are looking for.

He's serviceable as a big man for 6-15 minutes a game, which is exactly what the Cavs need. He is pretty terrible but does have playoff experience and is tough. So that counts for something

Also, he will have added value if the Cavs match up against the Thunder in the finals, which is a real possibility. I understand it's not the likeliest scenario but the finals are rarely the likeliest scenarios.

Meh Perkins as a back up big is fine for Cleveland. He will just play defense, set screens, look like Twhomp from Super Mario Brothers, and commit some hard fouls. Good pick up for spot minutes.
