Mike Leach Suspended

Texas Tech has suspended HC Mike Leach for the Alamo Bowl. Allegedly, Leach, or someone on his staff had a player with a mild concussion spend 3 hours in a dark closet, and an additional 3 hours in a dark electrical room. Unfortunately, the player involved was WR Adam James, son of ESPN Reporter Craig James. Unbelieveable. Welcome to the silly season, which normally starts AFTER the Bowl games end.

Do you think that Texas Tech is looking for a reason to fire him? This certainly violates his contract.

Exactly. I'm sitting here watching ESPN and wondering how they can cover this story objectively considering one of their employees is in the middle of it.

According to reports, James was told to either do what Leach said, or be kicked off the team. James was forced to stand up in the closet and the electric room. Leach had people checking on him. Leach has had personnel and problems all year. There was the "fat little girlfriends" comment after a loss to Texas A&M. He also suspended starting OL Brandon Carter after a loss to Houston. He also banned his team from twittering, when one player complained about having to wait for coaches being late to meetings.

Texas Tech hs no choice but to get rid of Leach now. If not, say good bye to any decent recruiting hopes. Between the "little fat girlfriends" speech, his other questionable actions with the team, and now this, he is a recruiting field day for all the other coaches chasing after the same kids that he is. Leach can join Mark Mangino in anger management 101.

I grabbed Mich + 9 before they took lines down yesterday. Leach is the mastermind to that system. Ive has season tickets for 6 seasons now and if I know what I know..Tech is in trouble without him..

The "fat little girlfriends" comment should have been worth a rather harsh repremand from the school. Now he will get what he deserves. He will be fired. It will be a long time before he is coaching a FBS team, if ever. His record at T-Tech is rather overblown. He never won a Big 12 title. He has had a 2 loss season, a 3 loss season, and numerous 4 loss seasons. Considering his competition, this is not the mark of a hall of fame coach. His bowl record is 5-4. He is, or was, a good coach, but certainly not one of the top coaches in the Big 12. He had 2 wins in 10 years against Texas, and 3 wins in 10 years against OU. He was 3-4 in his last 7 years against Okie State. That certainly is not the record of a great coach.

That being said Mr Leach is set to get a $800k bonus if he is the coach come 30 Dec. It could be that they just dont want to pay his bonus.

Daddy Q, I very rarely if ever dis-agree with you, but I must take exception to your stance about the fat little girlfriend comments.....If that is the worst these young men are ever faced with in life then they would have to be isolated from the rest of the world. Those comments are not horrible, ohhhh their feelings got hurt, Big f-ing deal. If that is soooo bad then every Drill Sgt. in the US millitary is the most monsterous people in the world. These athletes get a 1st class education free of charge in return they make colleges lots of money, but this is football not butterfly collecting.........I endured far worse than that in highschool football. I am not emotionaly scared, basic training was even worse and I am a productive member of society, hell I even got my ass whooped by my parents when I screwed up as a child..........Leach did nothing wrong IMO.....These types of hazing things are age old but when it happens to an ESPN employees child then its so terrible. You guys miss the entire point. Texas Tech wants to fire Leach. They now have the perfect reason to do so. Making a kid stand in a closet for 3+ hours is, in ther eyes, and in the eyes of many, inexcusable. Leach is gone. His attorney did not deny any of this. He just argued as to what type of room the kid ws confined to. Was Tim Tebow confined to a closet when he suffered through his concussion? Like it or not, we are entering 2010, and this type of behavior will not be tolerated. I am not saying that Leach did anything terribly wrong. What I am saying is that he is a complete and total moron for doing it, knowing what had already happened to Mangino, and knowing that Texas Tech was looking for the smallest of excuses to fire his ass. The word out of Lubbock is that Leach's attorneys are already looking for a buyout figure. The contract stated $400,000 per year, but that will never happen. Leach violated his contract.

Here is a new wrinkle to this stroy. According to some of the usual "sources close to the sceene", Mike Leach may have done this intentionally to get out of Lubbock. His contract calls for bonuses for winning the Conference, winning BCS games, and winning the NC, three things that were probably impossible to do at Texas Tech, as long as Texas and OU were around. Somenow think that Leach wanted out, and wanted to get as much as he could out of Texas Tech. Had he just quit, he would get nothing. This is just rumored to be the case, but the argument is that Leach's odd behavior, his public chewing out of his players, and other actions that he has taken indicated a strong and growing desire to leave Lubbock. As the year dragged on, his desire grew.

I don't know guys. As far as rumors are concerned, I'd give this one a "maybe". On the one hand, at face value, it seems rediculous, but on the other hand, Leach's antics this year were very strange, and rather hard to understand. You could tell by some of his press conferences that he was growing increasingly bitter about his team. Do you think they will rename the bowl game against Michigan State? I think the "Alamo-Suspension-Survivor Bowl" is more accurate now.
