#75The mistake was on the QB... You never just run to the middle of the field and lay the ball on the carpet. You are begging for the other team to jump on it. You take a knee, take the ball and hand it to the refs to spot it.
I've never seen a QB ever do that. That's was stupid and cost them the game.Comment -

#80Dude there was 18 seconds! I've seen teams make ten yard completions and have time to spike it. And I'll say it again, their kicker is inconsistent! It was the right call, just terrible execution ( by the officials)Comment -

Watching it again, I think there was confusion among the refs as to whether Stave actually kneeled, and the ball was still live. If you think that's the case, BLOW THE PLAY DEAD WHEN ASU JUMPS ON THE BALL, DON'T STAND THERE AND WATCH THE GUY DRY HUMP IT!Comment -

#86It was a stupid call magnified by the idiotic qb never taking a knee but laying the ball on the ground. 18 secs no timeouts just kick the the damn FG.Comment -

#89Even if the refs deemed that Stave's knee didn't touch, the clock should have stopped due to change of possession. Then of course you'd go to the replay booth for confirmation. I can't understand how they could let the game end that way.Comment -

#99I wonder if ESPN is gonna make a big stink about the ending of this game or just sweep it under the rug. This was as bad a hose job as I've seen in a long time. I can't even conceive of the explanation the refs gave to Coach Andersen. The officials should be fined and suspended.Comment -

#101It was a terrible call. It's not the same as a team making a completion by throwing the ball then spiking. Let me explain.
You want them to center the ball right for an easier FG attempt right? Well that takes 3 plays. First down Stave runs the ball to center it, 2nd down you have to spike the ball, 3rd down you kick the FG. 3 plays in 18 seconds is cutting it too close. Let's break it down. A run on first is going to take anywhere from 5 to 8 seconds to respot the ball (in this case it took 18 seconds) but let's say it only took 3 seconds per play (which probably doesn't happen with Usain Bolt spotting the ball), so 1st down goes from 18 to 15 seconds, 2nd down goes from 15 to 12 seconds, 3rd down you kick the FG with 9 seconds... Oops, illegal motion offense, 5 yard penalty... AND???? a 10 second run off. Game over.
You need a lot more time than 18 seconds to run 3 plays, especially with the 10 second runoff. Why risk a penalty on one of those plays which effectively ends the game?? just line up and kick the dam FG. If your kicker can't make it then don't have him kick and just throw into the end zone.
This was stupid clock management at it's highest level. Look at the QB Stave. He obviously thought the clock stopped when he took a knee. He was in no hurry to get back to the line. In fact, he didn't even notice the clock until there was just 2 seconds left. He's the one that screwed up. He should have hurried to the line right when he laid the ball on the ground (which is always a no no).
Don't blame the refs or the guy laying on the ball. Blame stupid Wisky coaches and stupid QB Stave. They found a way to fukk themselves by trying to be cute.

#10318 seconds is enough time to pull off a kneel down, spike, and field goal. It's really not that complicated 99.9% of the time. But when the quarterback makes an iffy kneeldown, and the defender cuddles the ball while the referee onlooks, shit happens. I still don't get people who think the coaches bungled the game. Centering the football for a game winning FG, followed by a clockstopping spike isn't new to the sport of football. As for the possibility of a penalty? That's the risk you take. But the refs denied them even a chance for a game ending false start by failing to bring order to a chaotic finish.Comment -

#104^ That loss is all on Stave. Relook at the video. When have you seen a QB center the ball by placing it on the carpet like it's a loaf of bread. It looked like a new version of the fumblerooski. You center the ball then, most important, you hand the ball to the refs so they can spot the ball. I've never seen a QB just let go of the ball. You always hand the ball to the refs. The ASU players did what they are taught.. Jump on the ball. But then Stave took his time, never once looked up at the clock until there was 2 seconds left. The only guy delaying the game was Stave. Not the refs, not the guy laying on the ball. If Stave would have hurried up, the refs and ASU players would have had to hurry up.Comment
