Boxing - Morales vs Pacquiao II - 01/21/2006

    Sat 1/21 951 Erik Morales -109
    08:00 PM 952 Manny Pacquiao -101

The next big fight coming up, and the first of 2006. Who do you think will win this rematch? I do know, this one is going to be good. Lets get some discussion on this. I know OWNED has some say so on this.

I haven't heard anything specific as to which gloves Morales will be wearing on fight night. This will be critical, imo. Supposedly he said he'll take out Manny with Reyes' gloves, because of all the whining last time from the Pacman camp for having to wear Morales' winning gloves. If he tries to show up Manny by wearing Reyes, I think Morales will have trouble, since he's been using winning gloves his whole career. Of course, Manny is seeking revenge, but so is Morales after getting thoroughly beaten by Zahir Raheem. Zahir fought out of his mind that night and that was more a factor than Morales not training or being unprepared, but what does that say about his form coming into this one? I don't know. I still think Morales is a class better than Pacquiao, but Manny has a lot of pro's his way as well, the main being that I'm positive Roach will put in a great gameplan for Manny to execute against Morales.

    Thanks OWNED.

Im interested to see if Pacquiao can back up what he said about using Reyes gloves. Morales should just wear the gloves he likes, and not try to prove a point. This one will be a good one.

Watched the replay of that again last night. His delusional dad's screaming "Balthazar only won 3 rounds", lol. His name is BALDOMIR. Then Zab that little bit ch a$$ blames Don, then hugs him when Don approaches him, lololololol.

No excuses for Pacquiao and Morales in 130-pound showdown

By TIM DAHLBERG, AP Boxing Writer
    January 20, 2006

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Manny Pacquiao has no problems with gloves this time. Ditto with hotel suites, taxes, promoters, tickets, hangers-on and fans.

He's got a cut man he believes won't allow the bleeding that went on in his first fight with Erik Morales. And he's got a trainer who is trying his best to keep Pacquiao from getting hit too much.

Simply put, there are no excuses going into the rematch Saturday night of his brawling loss to Morales 10 months ago.

"If we don't win this fight, it's just because we can't," said Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach. "Everything has been taken care of."

That wasn't the case last March when the Filipino national hero met one of the greatest Mexican champions ever in a 130-pound slugfest that ended with Pacquiao bloodied and beaten in a close but unanimous decision.

Pacquiao went into the fight feuding with his former promoter, afraid he was going to have to pay a large settlement on back taxes and burdened by having to hold up the hopes of his countrymen on his slight shoulders.

When Morales opened a deep cut over his right eye in the fifth round, Pacquiao's problems worsened.

"Every time Erik moved to his right, I couldn't see him," Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao (40-3-2, 32 knockouts) fought gamely and came on at the end of the fight but it wasn't enough to stop Morales from winning a decision in a fight where there was no title at stake but plenty of national pride on both sides.

The two meet in the rematch (HBO pay-per-view, 9 p.m. EST) at the MGM Grand hotel-casino in a fight that figures to be just as action-packed as the first.

"All I can tell you is I am looking forward to give the people a great show," Morales said. "You know, give them something to scream about, something they will enjoy, something that they will remember for a long time."

Morales is coming off an upset loss to Zahir Raheem in September on a fight card that was supposed to set up both fighters for their rematch. Pacquiao won his fight by knockout, then watched as Morales lost for just the third time in his long career.

It was the first fight for Morales (48-3, 34 knockouts) at 135 pounds, and his first loss to anyone other than Marco Antonio Barrera, who he fought in three thrilling bouts. But it wasn't enough to stop a rematch eagerly anticipated by both Mexican and Filipino fans.

"Losses shouldn't bring out the best in you, but you know somehow they do in me," Morales said. "There is nothing you can do about those things that are already in the past but I know what I am capable of doing and what I want to do in this fight."

Morales, who has held titles in three different weight classes, is suddenly in need of a big win after losing two of his last three fights. The Tijuana fighter has made a career out of standing in front of opponents and brawling with them, but must now answer questions of whether that has begun to slow him down at the age of 29.

Morales, though, says he is the same fighter he has always been, and just had a bad night against Raheem, who used movement and effective jabs and combinations to win a unanimous upset decision.

Morales said he will use the first fight as a blueprint of what he has to do in the rematch to win.

"After you have been 12 rounds with a guy there are a lot of things that you see that are good. I know he is strong. I know he is fast. I know he is a good fighter," Morales said. "But I also learned that he is not as strong as a lot of people think or I never give him the opportunity to show his power against me. I am not going to give him any openings to hit me with his best shot."

Pacquiao, whose all-out, never-quit-punching style has made him a national hero at home, says he is finally at peace with himself after a bitter split with promoter Murad Muhammad, who he blamed for making him fight with gloves he didn't like in the first fight.

Pacquiao will go with Reyes gloves in the rematch, which he said allows him to hit harder because they are made with horsehair instead of foam. Roach said he has also tried to polish his fighter's style somewhat so he won't be hit so much.

"He fights with his heart and emotion," Roach said. "People say you should change him and settle him down. But this is what makes him exciting and you can't take it away from him."

I also liked the way that Judah blamed King for the loss. He said that King ran him all over doing promotions. Fortunately for Judahs pocket book Judah's Dad backed King.

I can't find what gloves that were agreed upon either. I'm going to post at a couple of iother forums to find out.

    AWESOME ROUND

Pacman almost floors Morales, but he holds himself up on the ropes. Morales comes back with good shots to slow Pacman a bit.

Round two I give to Pacman.

    19-19

A little slower round, but Morales was sticking his jab good. Flurries by both fighters in round 3.

    Round 3 to Morales.

    29-28

I feel sorry for the judges, going to be tough to score.

Whoever isnt watching this fight is missing a good one.

Pacman is hitting Morales hard in round 6th most the round. Almost went down at the end of round 6.

    Round 6 to Pacman.

    58-56 Morales.

Morales comes out good in round 7, but he seems to punch himself out and looked tired in the middle of the round. Pacman looked fresher and stuck some shots.

I give that one to Pacman.

    67-66 Morales.

Morales looks to be getting tired faster in each round now.

Man o man. Tough one to score. But I feel Pacman did more in that round, but Morales came on in the last 20 seconds of round 8.

Round 8 I give to Pacman.

    76-76 Even.

    Morales looks tired.

Have it 4-4-1 thru 9 rounds, but would be shocked if Manny doesn't KO him. WTF Morales, in total control after 5 and he just stops jabbing and hasn't been the same since Manny's assault in round 6.

Morales is very slow and looks weak. Pacman just keeps coming.

Morales gets knocked down twice, and the Ref. stops the fight.

Pacman wins in Round 10 with a TKO.

Disappointing to see one of my all times faves grow old like that in the ring, but it happens to all the great ones. Stupid move getting rid of his father too, his corner was a big mess tonight like the commentators were saying. Rubbing his legs between rounds, lol. Might as well wave the white flag instead of sending your fighter out there for the inevitable KO. Big win for Pacquiao.

Oh yeah. He is one of my favorites too OWNED. Sad to see him get beat up from round 6 on. He just didnt have no legs under him and was lucky he didnt go down sooner then round 10. Good fight, but I would of liked to see a full 12 rounds.

I'm glad he went out swinging at least when he knew he had no chance to win. On the flipside, Kostya disappointed me quitting on his stool against Hatton.

I just can't believe they started rubbing his legs. That was unreal. Morales was in total control after the first 5 rounds, his corner needed to urge him to box and not exchange with Manny, because Morales was catching him flush in those first 5 rounds and there were only a few significant flurries that really hurt Manny.

I know it OWNED. Morales had the fight in hand, he just needed to keep that jab going and keep backing Pacquiao up. But rubbing the legs was just a kiss of death that showed he was done.
