Brady Anderson. Remember Him??
I think this is one of the weirdest stats ever.
In 1996 he hit 50 HR's and had 110 RBI's
His Home Run totals the 3 years previous to that
were 12-13 and 16.
He never hit more than 24 after that 1996 season.
in a 15 year career he hit 210 Home Runs
avg 14 HR's a year..
Weird? What the hell happened in 96?

He was on steroids. I'm not sure if he admitted it but I remember one of the Orioles announcers (Mike Flannagan I think) came out and said Anderson is an obvious case of the roids at work.Originally Posted by imgv94

The '96 season was incredibly offensive all-around, especially in the AL and especially in Seattle. Half of the 14 AL squads averaged 5.5 runs or better per game compared to just one in 2005 (Boston). Not defending Anderson, but he wasn't the only player who set a career high in homers that year (Paul Wilson, Jay Buhner, Mo Vaughn, Tim Naehring, Dean Palmer, Kevin Elster, Juan Gonzalez, Robin Ventura, Terry Steinbach, Geronimo Berroa and Ed Sprague just to name a few from the AL alone). In some of those cases, the difference between their '96 career highs and their next-best season was fairly well pronounced as in Anderson's case.
Were Brady Anderson and some of the others I listed using steroids/hormones/etc? Maybe, probably. But my stance on this has always been using a 'magic pill' is not the crime. The crime is in how long it took MLB to remedy the situation.
i remember ole brady. he was the posterboy for roids way back when.
he took that one year of greatness, and parlayed it into like a 50 million dollar contract.
I also remember he had like 35 homeruns at the break that year and struggled to to finish with 50. He was a very strange person.
that was the year where the "juiced ball theroy" really became the big talk surrounding "MLB"
I just trip out about him.
Went back and checked on 1996 NL'ers who hit career highs in the HR column (only looking at the 'full-time' players) from that year:
Ryan Klesko ... Marquis Grissom ... Henry Rodriguez ... Todd Hundley ... Bernard Gilkey ... Benito Santiago ... Tom Pagnozzi ... Barry Larkin ... Hal Morris ... Orlando Merced ... Jeff King ... Ken Caminiti ... Eric Karros ... Andres Galarraga ... Ellis Burks.
To be fair, a few of those played in a career-high games (or close to it) that season, and the last pair of Rox had the mile high thing going for them.

than in pros. thats what tim salmon told me
I play this game called STRAT-O-MATIC baseball and own most of the seasons.
When you check out the cards of the players you can see some very odd people having a one year wonder type season.
Off the top of my head I think there was a pitcher from Toronto that won the CY YOUNG that same year and he was juiced up also..
What the frick was his name????
Pat Hentgen.....,,he was the cy young juicer that year
