MLB announces 2006 schedule

NEW YORK (Ticker) - The Chicago White Sox won't have to wait long to play their closest American League Central rival.
The 2006 major league baseball season opens Sunday, April 2 when the World Series-champion White Sox host the the Cleveland Indians at U.S. Cellular Field in a nationally televised contest. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN2 at 8:05 pm EST.
Last year's race between these two clubs for the division crown went down to the final weekend of the season.
The Cincinnati Reds will host the traditional National League opener Monday, April 3 at 2:10 pm EST when the Chicago Cubs visit Great American Ball Park.
The St. Louis Cardinals will open the new Busch Stadium on Monday, April 10 at 4:10 pm EST against the Milwaukee Brewers. The new ballpark replaces the Cardinals' former home of the same name, where the club had played since 1966.
The 10th year of interleague play commences on May 19 with games primarily between traditional interleague rivals. This season, the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals will join Mets-Yankees, Cubs-White Sox, Astros-Rangers, Dodgers-Angels, Giants-Athletics and Reds-Indians among traditional interleague rivals.
The main segment of interleague play will run from June 16 - July 2, featuring matchups between each league's corresponding division, including a rematch of the 2005 World Series between the White Sox and Houston Astros from June 23-25.
